It’s actually been quite sad to complete this blog, as in a great number of the photos is my mate, my father-in-law, Papang. Sadly no longer with us, but his memory lives on with us. He was a massive foodie and he loved having big family dinners with us all. I think some of his favourite times were with us all stuffing our faces and having a few beers. This blog is written in his memory. Bless you, Papang. RIP my friend.
Let’s go – and just to state in no specific order. It is not top 12 plus FIVE Bohol Restaurants with 1-17 rating, they’re in a random order: not even A-Z. My view is that your food choice really depends on how your mood is swinging you at that time.

The Breakfast Taco Club
OK, this take forever to arrive, in fact, our server even came up to apologise. I thought they had seriously forgotten it or not taken this down in the order. But, wow, so glad it was on the order and that we waited for this.
What an absolutely spanking taco dish this is. Amazing in fact. This is a MUST-TRY when you come to Chido Cafe. It’s like a Mexican brekkie. Crispy fried potatoes, beautiful scrambled eggs, homemade Chorizo to die for, and then topped with that sour and tangy salsa verde. Winner winner: Taco lunch (OK, that doesn’t rhyme, but who cares?). A stunner of a dish that I will likely have, every time I return to Chido Cafe. WOOF!!!

Watch the full Vlog to see this dish in action. It’s a cracker. Mist Panglao’s:
24-hour marinated Oriental spiced chicken, in Whisky gravy. The theatre is that they flambe this table-side. Yeah, it’s very cool.
Clearly, they are into BIG signature, statement dishes. Check this bad boy out.
A mix of grilled and fried pork in a giant skin crackling with 3 different sauces. I had to order this.

Modala Beef Burger
PHP 680: ~ USD $12.90
US Angus beef patty, cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, pickled gherkin caramelized, and Adobo Mayo in Brioche Bun. onion,
Mangaon Ta Restaurant is a Meat Lovers’ Paradise. This is truly one of the best burgers I have ever eaten. I shared it with Jude, and I tell you it was gone in the blink of an eye. Seasoned to perfection, that Adobo Mayo is just an insanely good bedfellow to that beefiness!!! Class Burger!!!
Mangaon Ta Restaurant’s Halo-halo
PHP 220: ~ USD $3.94
Frozen milk, with mixed candied fruits, steamed custard, and ube ice cream.
This is hallowed ground with Halo-halo. You can get it right or very very wrong. And man-oh-man did Mangaon Ta get it right? Best I have ever had. I raved about this so much the girls all had one the next day, and Wifey even ordered one from the pool to be delivered.
Yes, that’s a good Halo-halo, one not to be missed if you stay here. What makes the Halo-halo unique here is the frozen ice ball containing condensed milk, it is a WOW moment when that starts melting and you ‘mix’.

CHIMI and POLO. Tow Mediterranean inspired roast chickens, with roasted root veggies.
PHP 899: ~ USD $16.10
Simply delicious. I love the concept of two flavours and two sauces with this MOSA dish. One was very Mediterranean (on the left) and the other very much curry flavoured, akin to a Coronation Chicken Curry. Spanking. Super-moist too. Really good, and highly recommended by ISLIFEARECIPE.net.
Golden Pot Roast. Slow-cooked beef plate, marinated with herbs and served with roasted roots and mashed beetroot.
PHP 599: ~ USD $10.74 (BARGAIN!!!)
Yeah, this was good. Although one little complaint, a little dry, just a little. Still very tasty, and with that beetroot puree and some rock salt (yes it needed seasoning) was killer. Plus, I love the gold leaf touch on the top – food theatre on steroids.

Smoque Bistro & Bar, Bohol Restaurants
Get yourself here. It is a must and the best on the island we reckon. Say hi to Chef Raphael and his crew when you do. You must try the following; Meat Sharing Platter, Crispy Pork Belly, Octopus, Sisig Tacos (AMAZE-BALLS), Wagyu Steaks, Brisket – in fact, EVERYTHING is a must-try.
It’s a mix of styles from Western to local and sometimes the menu depends on what produce Chef has been able to source at the markets that day. You have to love a changing specials board right?
We have been about 6 times now, usually 2 times every trip. Live music, great ambience, superb family orientation, incredible staff, the best food on the island, and super value for $$$. It has to be #1 on your list to visit when you are here. We are addicted to it.
How could you resist the:
The gravy is insanely good, but all I need is a little sea salt and I am in heaven – and so is my partner in crime, Jude.

Payag, Bohol Restaurants
Picture this: you’re in Tagbilaran, feeling hungry as ever and craving a taste of authentic Filipino cuisine. You ask around for recommendations, and suddenly Payag Restaurant comes up. It’s like a hidden gem waiting to be discovered, a food haven that will make your taste buds dance with joy. Trust me, you won’t want to miss out on this culinary delight.
From their incredible Chicken Inato, which is so delicious it’ll make you forget your own name, to the quirky and delightful chicken figures adorning every nook and cranny,
Payag Restaurant has it all. But that’s just the short answer! So, prepare your appetite and get ready for a mouthwatering adventure!
Favourites of my family are the signature BBQ dish of Chicken Inato, deep-fried things that hold the intestines of a pig together (yep, I’m serious) called Chicharon Bulaklak, BBQ Chicken Liver, and Green Mango Shakes.
No need to book, and make sure you have some cash with you.
The best location is the original location in my honest opinion. This is just off the main square of Tagbilaran City. Get yourself upstairs, get a cold San Mig in your hand and order the entire menu.
This used to be a single location just around the corner from where wifey was in her digs whilst at University. It is now a large fairly large chain, but our favourite is still the original location. It is no-frills, family-style, extremely good local Filipina BBQ food at incredibly cheap $$$. Again, we will go here once or twice per trip. The food is addictive.
You must have your food with the ‘native dipping sauce‘, which is basically some soy, vinegar, chili, and calamansi lime. Dip that BBQ chicken in that and you will be in heaven. No need to book, just rock-on-up.
It’s always a family affair at Payag. It’s just great honest grub. No frills, nothing fancy. Just good food. One word of advice. The BBQ chicken tastes better if you use your hands to eat it.
I kid you, not this is likely to be the best BBQ chicken you will ever eat. Simply served with native dipping sauce. This is BBQ chicken heaven right here. This dish here, is what it’s all about.
They ask if you want breast or leg meat. I love that. Are you a breast or leg man? I ordered the best chicken tits on the planet. Yes, I am. breast man haha.
Oh yeah, and they do some really nice deep-fried pig intestinal bits (translated to ‘flower”, because they look like a flower when laid flat) that Jude and Amy both love! I promise you, if you do not eat with your eyes or thoughts, it really is rather delicious. Come on if a 6-year-old can… This is called Chicharon Bulaklak.

Enter a world where exquisite Filipino cuisine combines with old-world elegance, friendly hospitality, and gastronomic delights. Greetings from Gerarda’s Family Restaurant Bohol, a secret oasis tucked away in the center of Tagbilaran City. Gerarda’s is the solution to your local-local cuisine cravings. It’s usually full of families 20+ strong all sitting at huge long tables. It’s brilliant.
The first and original Gerarda’s location: Imagine a wonderful old house that has been converted into a restaurant. The tables will be decorated with mementos from bygone eras, and photos of the family, and the atmosphere will take you there. Doesn’t that seem interesting?
Let me take you on a flavour tour. You’ll be greeted by the enticing fragrances of Filipino specialties being prepared with care and skill the moment you step inside. A variety of delectable dishes are offered on the menu, from the seafood spectacular Seafood Kare Kare, which includes soft squid, shrimp, fish, and crabs. The Pinakbet, a native dish of mixed vegetables that are brimming with taste, should also not be forgotten. You’re about to pamper your taste buds!
However, Gerarda’s is more than just its delicious food. Experience is key. The staff goes above and beyond to make sure your dining experience is nothing less than extraordinary. Gerarda’s staff members are kind, attentive, and pleasant, bringing a special touch to your dinner.
So, what is the quick justification for going to Gerarda’s? Because it offers a unique eating experience that combines superb Filipino cuisine with a pleasant atmosphere and top-notch service.
There are actually three Gerarda’s Family Restaurant locations now in Bohol. The older first location is in Tagbilaran City, then the second is more modern also in Tagbilaran City, and now a third Gerarda’s location in Panglao that even has a swimming pool.
This place has a great deal of history and legacy in Bohol. It is no-nonsense local fare, that absolutely rocks. You’ll be sat with huge groups of families celebrating something or other, or just there to be one as a family brought together by the place and the food.
The newer site is our preferred site, which is closer to St Jude’s Hospital. I just cannot find the address. It must be a Filipina/Bohol thing for restaurants, but again it just has that feeling of homely and family. We have eaten here when there have been literally families of 40 all eating together – huge long tables of chatting, laughing and chewing.
Now that is a really good sign in my reckoning. Local fare is on offer here and it is so very damned good. This is another Kennett family frequent haunts when we visit our second home of Bohol. It’s all just so very good from the sweetcorn soup to Kinilaw, to dried beef ribs and so much more. We love it here.
We always over-order and we just graze and graze. Wifey always goes for the:
It’s akin to a fish Ceviche with onion, cucumber, vinegar, and so on. Super-fresh, and very delicious.
Another major call out here is the deep-fried beef ribs. This is:
OMG. We have these every single time we eat here. With your hands, you peel hunks of beef-jerky-like meat and dip them in the native sauce. Absolutely heavenly with an icy cold Pilsen. Oh, my word! See what I mean – oh yeah baby! Pull and dip, and repeat! Heavenly! It’s a cracking restaurant with superb local cuisine.

It’s just such a cool space. The young lads who have created this deserve a medal. Genius!
OK, this review is very specific for this new concept location in Tagbilaran. The Hideout Food Park itself is Uber cool. A quasi-hawker grouping around a large courtyard, with a bar, live music (most nights), and even a quiz night. Yeah, we think this place rocks. We stumbled across this as I sat side-saddle one night on a tricycle on the way to Island City Mall. I saw neon, graffiti, containers, and a stage. Yeah, this needs some Google search. We found The Hideout Food Park.
It is no-nonsense local fare. For example, if you ask for cutlery with the Bellychon they will hand you a plastic glove for you to shovel it in, I kid you not. A genius concept from a group of young lads.
The live music usually starts at about 20:00 and is, so far, absolutely brilliant. The Hideout Food Park is unique in Bohol and is a must-visit.
The Hideout Food Park is a must-visit. But, for this review I’ll also give you a must-eat whilst you are frequenting this place.
Holy moly. A scaled-down version of Lechon. With native dipping sauce and even plastic gloves to encourage you to eat with your hands. This tiny little hawker stand is chopping and serving some of the very best pork bellies ever in my Philippines visit history.
It was a slow roast, succulent, crackling crisped heavenly dish. One of the very best and that is saying something in The Philippines for pork believe me. Stellar!
Here is that perfect pork roll. Isn’t she beautiful? This is almost a Philippines version of Porchetta I suppose? Slow roast and then crackled up. I am in love every time I come to The Hideout.
And here it is plated. I kid you not folks, this is a stunning display of how to cook pork belly. This is just beautiful. Butter-like slow-roast, lightly flavoured with herbs and the like with that crisp crunch of the crackling. Dip away. HEAVEN!!! This dip is called native dipping sauce and is a mix of soy sauce, spiced vinegar, and evil little bird’s eye chillis. A stunning match made in heaven.
We just arrived for a trip in November 2019 and our first dinner experience was to immediately get here. Bring on the Bellychon and the music and some ice-cold beverages please The Hideout.

Bellevue Resort Dining—the epitome of culinary excellence in a tropical paradise awaits you.
This is a fully-functioning resort so I might suggest a wee phone call prior to rocking up for lunch or dinner. We have never had a problem, but we have been there loads including being a resort guest a few times. But this place is well worth a trip for some food and view. It is a stunner of a place and food is damned fine too. A wide variety of menus as you would expect at a resort from local to Western, Asian, and Fusion.
Yeah, I do not mind sitting here at all for a lunch date.
What can I say? This is a stunner of a resort with easy access to things like diving, dolphins, and snorkeling too. It’s a lot quieter too than the resorts over the Alona side of the island. I love it here. Apparently, it is where a lot of the film and TV stars come to due to it being a little more ‘secluded’. Gets my vote! And what a view as you dine.
Their version of:
is just bonkers as they use whole cuts of roast pork belly. So it is amazingly crunchy and crispy. It is a cracking dish. And this is just one of their vast menu of offerings. As it is a resort they do cater for a lot of multi-country menu options too – see wifey choice one day.
A wee Japanese twist this day for Wifey.
With fish roe and pickles. Man did they plate that well or what? It looks stunning and wifey gave it to me on good authority that the flavour was equally incredible.

Saffron Restaurant Panglao is a culinary adventure that promises an exploration of flavours that will leave you craving for more, whilst staring over topaz seas and blue skies.
The Amorita Resort was the very first place I stayed in the Philippines, specifically Bohol. nearly 11 years ago now when Amy was still sucking hard on the milk bottle bless her. Amazing amount of change since that 1st trip.
No more dive-bum shacks and pizza joints down the beach as now it is all luxury resorts with the foreign cash injection for tourism that is seeing Bohol BOOM! This is also where my brother-in-law YanYan works as a lifeguard and water sports aficionado. So whenever we are in Bohol we usually try to pop along to Amorita Resort for memory sake and YanYan hellos.
Again, this is a fully functioning guest resort so I would call and book as you will need to get in past the security and the like. Just in case. A wide variety of menus as you would expect at a resort from local to Western, Asian, and Fusion.
Now the other interesting fact re this restaurant is that the Head Chef used to be Chef Raphael. Our mate and Chef/Owner of Smoque Bistro and Bar, our #1 restaurant choice on the island. He has clearly left his mark at Saffron, as it is so very good. Nicely done Chef Raphael.
We ate there this trip, November 2019, and saw the Chef. Sadly we did not get the chance to say Hi. I tried a few new items on the menu and had my socks blown off – so this review now includes those and they will be getting a separate blog just for the lunch we just had. Absolutely incredible.
Thai beef salad
It gots lots of ooohs and aahs as Wifey was eating this, so I have to assume it was good. I have to say it looks rather special. You have to love Thai salads, usually sour, sweet, and spicy. Yummo!

Lantaw Native Restaurant, Bohol Restaurants
Lantaw Native Restaurant Bohol is a popular dining establishment located in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, Philippines. The restaurant offers a scenic view of Panglao Island and is known for its delicious Filipino dishes. “Lantaw” means “to overlook” in the local language, and each of their locations provides superb views along with mouth-watering Filipino food.
So if you are indeed looking for a dining experience that combines incredible Filipino native cuisine, breathtaking views over Panglao Island, and a refreshing vibe? Look no further than Lantaw Native Restaurant Bohol! This gem in Tagbilaran City has captured the hearts (and taste buds) of locals and travelers alike, it’s one of our consistent ‘go-to’ locales, as it is just over the causeway for us.
Whether you’re a lover of Filipino native food or an adventurous gastronome seeking unique specialties (see my Wife’s favourite below), Lantaw has something to delight your senses.
Lantaw Native Restaurant offers more than just a feast for your taste buds. The restaurant boasts stunning views that will leave you in awe. And with plenty of parking available, getting there is a breeze.
So, whether you’re planning a family outing, a romantic date, or a gathering with friends, Lantaw is the perfect destination to satisfy your cravings and create lasting memories.
Lantaw Native Restaurant Bohol really is a gem in Tagbilaran City, offering mouthwatering native cuisine, breathtaking views, and a refreshing dining experience.
This is a place we first visited when we were staying on Mactan Island, Cebu for my 50th. Jude was not so ‘hot’ one day so we ventured off alone to visit Lantaw. Yeah, we had a ball there and then heard it had opened on Bohol, well bugger me. We went once and it was you know, sort of OK. But the 2nd and 3rd times have been brilliant. I sense improvement every time we go back.
It is up there as a place to go visit now, and it really does have some cracking views from Bohol across to Panglao. It is literally halfway between the two causeways between the two islands. Very nice. Lantaw Native Restaurant, as the name suggests, is all about local-local fare. And loads of it.
It is a HUGE restaurant. I don’t think you would really need to book as it really is so very large. I love this photo as they were advertising a Beatles-themed night when we were there and Jude was desperate to go haha.
Either his seat is really hot and he sat down in shorts or Jude is actually really happy to be here. I think the latter. See what I mean about that view? It’s stunning. Boats pottering past. Local guys wading out to catch shellfish and the like and then the lights come down and night kicks in. It is just stunning!
Guys, it is different from the Spanish you have probably tried. From here it is a little warming for sure, but also so savoury and so bloody sweet almost like dripping in honey. It is AMAZING and it comes in these stings that get stuck on a stick and then BBQs until chargrilled. I mean fark off really.
This is death row, but with a caveat of hold on with the chair whilst I work out how to get the string out of the sausage please Warden. Worth the death wait. Amazing little savoury sweet bundles!!! I just bought myself a load of this raw, Nov’19, for me to cook when I get back home, likely with a drizzle of honey too. Oh yes!
And then my wifey walks up to the plate and knocks it out of her park with this. Looks like a car crash, a crime scene, something off of Sigourney Weaver’s face. No this is my wifey’s chosen dinner. Fark me! It’s local shellfish time. Probably the guys down below us with floating buckets up to their waists in water are collecting. Seriously WTF is it? Don’t be shellfish Babes tell me. All I can say is YUCKS!!!
This is the Filipino Gong Gong, which you can also buy freely in Singapore. How on earth did someone someday go, you know what, that looks delicious.
What is a Gong Gong:
The shellfish “gong gong” is an edible sea snail commonly found in Singapore, and parts of Southeast Asia like the Philippines, and is a delicacy. In English, it is also referred to as “conch” or “whelk.” The local name “gong gong” is used interchangeably with these terms.
“Gong gong” is typically steamed and served with a homemade chili sauce. The meat of the snail is extracted from the shell using a toothpick or by pulling out its tail, and then it is dipped in the chili sauce. The entire meat (excluding the tail) is considered edible, although some people prefer to remove the bottom black part. It is a very popular Filipino food and can be found at hawker stalls that sell barbecue seafood, and clearly Lantaw Native Restaurant in Tagbilaran.
The meat of “gong gong” is known for its sweet and delicious flavor, making it a sought-after shellfish. Yeah, you still haven’t sold me on it, another plate of Chorizo please Garcon.
We always max out here. You just can’t help yourself. You read down that menu, and then the next minute you have a smorgasbord of Filipino cuisine adorning your table. Have a look at that lot. Stunning.

Henann Resort Panglao, Bohol Restaurants
Henann Resort, as the name suggests is a resort. As such it clearly has to cater to a wide variety of food tastes and styles. Just sitting at the pool today, 27/11/2019, there are about 20 different languages I am picking up. Yeah, that is tough to ask to please all.
The menu is therefore diverse shall we say? But it is damned fine to boot. I highly recommend a stay here or just pop over to eat. You can use the beach area if you eat and drink with them, or you can even buy a wristband and use the lower pools and facilities if not staying with them. Do it.
We love sitting at the pool bar near the beach. People-watching with toes in the sand listening to the cool chillax tunes pumping out across the beach and waves. The food is quality, and I am going to pick a few favourites for you to see what I mean. It’s a must-try if you are in Bohol or Panglao. Happy Hour is 5-7 pm, get your bum down here and get sandy.
It is literally eating on the beach here at Henann Resort, especially if you dine down at the bottom pool bar. Even if you are not staying at the hotel you can dine, drink and use the pool here. Which is ACE, because that is one truly wonderful beach, Alona Beach.
Sisig in a Beggar’s Purse. How cool is that for a name? They describe this as a purse-shaped lumpia wrapper filled with pork sisig and served with garlic-vinegar dip. 1/ Be aware it is bloody filling. 2/ For those not used to it the dipping vinegar is spicy. As a seasoned veteran of Filipino food though, and a massive lover of Sisig (see previous blogs) this is an absolute cracker. What a great concept. It is genius. Portable Sisig. I love it!
This dish is another reason they are going into the Top 10 list. This is their sun-dried beef and it is off-the-charts amazing. This is beer-food on bloody steroids believe me. It is just wonderful.
Icy cold Pilsen and this are bedfellows like no other. Sitting there chewing on this beefy goodness, cold beer in hand and white sandy beach between my toes. I could die happy right now.Anthony Bourdain once said: “Food tastes better with sand between your toes…”
They also offer up a killer, stand-alone Sisig. This little puppy is up there with the best eaten by this big fat hairy gob.

The Front Food Park and Becca Bistro are the ultimate destination for food enthusiasts seeking an exceptional gastronomic experience and variety all under one roof. You can enjoy the sea and Panglao Island views, craft beers, and cocktails at Becca Bistro, and then walk back to The Front Food Park for ~9 food stalls all offering different dining experiences. Both locations have the same owner, but each stall is individually hired: very Singapore hawker style.
It, therefore, makes a visit here a scintillating culinary adventure
Step into a world where food and fun blend seamlessly at the Front Food Park and Becca Bistro. This gastronomic hotspot is renowned for its diverse culinary offerings, and delightful ambiance. It’s just so very cool. My recommendation: get there early and go to Becca Bistro for a beverage, and watch the sunset.
Then walk back into The Front Food Park and dine away (still supplied by the craft beers from Becca). Also worth calling out is that Beccaa has one of the stalls in The Front Food Park selling rather good pizzas. Read on to see more.
It’s really quite stunning here with sunsets, and views of the sea and Panglao Island as you sup and eat.
Literally adjacent to Becca Bistro lies the Front Food Park, a bustling food haven that beckons with an array of culinary delights. Picture this: a vibrant space adorned with colourful food stalls, each offering a unique culinary experience. From sizzling street food to gourmet delicacies and steaks, there’s something for everyone here.
Remember, life is too short for bland food.
This section of this Bohol Restaurant Blog is longer than the others because it is more than one restaurant in one location… Let me list them out one by one…
Drunk Skillet Steak & Grill
A cracking array of steaks is on offer here. You can get a decent Australian rib eye steak for PHP650, circa USD $10. Now that’s a steal. Or how about a 15-day dry-aged ribeye for PHP770, circa USD $13.70. Again, bargain. Back home that would be easily $30-50 SGD.
Becca Cafe & Bistro Pizza Station
This is a little off-shoot of the big brother at the water front, which is 1-minute walk away. I know that because that is where I had to keep walking to get my beers. This place is serving up quality pizzas, a really nice thin n crispy style, packed with toppings at super-affordable rice with some wicked homemade hot sauce. Just awesome.
This bad boy is the Chili Bacon Bomb. A cracker. And raise that bar with their homemade hot sauce too. BOOMSKI!!! And super-priced at only PHP370, USD $6.60. Wowser!!!
Wifey had the Bangus Ala Pobre, akin to a Milkfish Sisig basically. The family loved this so much, they went back and ordered a second bowl of this. There you go Amalia, be proud of that. great work. Again super-cheap, priced at PHP300, circa USD $5.35. See below. Looks pretty damned good, right?
When I said whimsy above, I meant because of the supplier of their locally-made craft beers. That would be Fat Pauly’s Hand-Crafted Ales & Lagers (a man after my own heart). 13 years old now, from Iligan City. Great logo, and very good beers. I quaffed quite a few. If that logo had a beard it would have some incredible resemblance to yours truly.

Chicken Ati-Atihan Tagbilaran City, Bohol Restaurants
Introducing Chicken Ati-Atihan Tagbilaran City: Where Flavour Takes Centre Stage, in a big way!!!
Hold on to your taste buds (and chickens), folks, because we’re about to take you on a local food adventure that will leave you clucking for more! Welcome to Chicken Ati-Atihan Tagbilaran City, a dining experience in Tagbilaran City like no other.
Picture this: succulent grilled chicken that’s so tender it practically falls off the bone, paired with aromatic rice that beckons you to take a generous bite. That’s just the beginning of the flavourful extravaganza that awaits you at Chicken Ati-Atihan.
This place gets full to the rafters with families gathering for a finger-licking feast, and local food enthusiasts craving that perfect balance of smoky and savoury BBQ chicken, with spicy chicken oil to die for.
Whether you’re a meat lover or prefer something from the deep blue sea, Chicken Ati-Atihan has got you covered: it’s not just chicken. But man alive the chicken is soooo good. You must try the: Ati-Atihan chicken, deep-fried chicken skin, and Isol (chicken bum), and make sure you add some of her infamous spicy chicken oil.
Chicken Ati-Atihan in Tagbilaran City is a dining haven that serves mouthwatering grilled chicken and a range of delectable dishes. Do not expect silver service. This is about as local as it gets. Picnic tables in a shed, a very smoky shed. It is just fricking awesome. I’d say now the best on Bohol, she absolutely has pipped Payag now.
I think the restaurant should change its name to Ati-AtiHEN (get it?).
It’s like an old rusty shed, but do not be put off if you are a visiting traveler. The unwritten rule for local food is: go where the locals go.
The food is quite incredible here at Ati-Atihan. I would say that this place is knicking out the best BBQ Inasal chicken on the island. So moist, smoky, savoury. Then add some of that spicy chicken oil and BOOMSKI!!! Next-level.
Every time I come here I ask if I can buy this from them. Always a no, sadly. This is like the chicken version of Beef Tallow. It’s rendered chicken fat, with oils, added secret spices, and chillis. It is the best accompaniment ever. I seriously NEED this in my life on all foods haha. Must-try when you visit here.
Absolutely no-frills dining here. You can get plastic gloves and even aprons to avoid splash-back. This is normally full to the brim with dining families, sometimes with two and three tables pulled together. It’s such an awesome sight and a major people-watching opportunity as you dine at Ati-Atihan. This was actually the restaurant where I met my Filipino kids for the first time, what an ice-breaker this place was.
And, this is what all the fuss is about. Cooked low and slow over BBQ wood fires. So tender, juicy, smoky, and just heavenly. You can’t get enough of this. This is the infamous, best chicken in Bohol, at Ati-Atihan Chicken. It is truly a foodie heavenly dish.
Amazingly simple, but amazingly good. And don’t forget to splash liberal amounts of the chicken oil over. Holy moly… This best version of local Filipino cuisine will set you back PHP185 at Ati-Atihan. That equates to ~ USD $3.30. Can you believe that?

With affordable menu options and pocket-friendly prices, this establishment ensures that everyone can experience the joy of good food without compromising quality. I reckon $10 a head including drinks.
Lively Atmosphere: Step into Original AA BBQ Panglao and be greeted by a vibrant and lively atmosphere that adds a touch of excitement to your dining experience: they have banging toons pumping out. It’s uber-cool.
The 1st time EVER in all my years of coming to the Philippines. Native Dipping sauce with raw green tomatoes. Holy cow, best-in-breed. I was eating this on its own at the end of the evening – well vinegar is supposed to be good for you, isn’t it? LOVE THIS!!! AA BBQ you are rocking my friends. So apparently AA BBQ originates from Cebu, and this is #1 branch in Bohol.
I suppose we watch this space for more to come as this was jammed!!! And funnily enough, quite a few scooter white faces are in the mix too.BIG family dinner tonight at a new place on Dauis that Sis and Brother have visited and said is good. I am liking it a lot. Alcoholics Anonymous BBQ. Bring it on. I have hooked already!!!
Like the Philippines version of The Waltons. We go big tonight with Mum, brother and sis, kids galore, and nieces and, and… This restaurant is Uber cool. No frills and all that but it has a really cool atmosphere. Music pumping, it’s busy and vibrant. The staff is great. The prices are very good and the menu looks incredible too. Yeah, one big happy family of food campers tonight.
Up next which is a Filipino salad made from fresh seaweed with pickled vegetables. My first time trying this, and yet another WOW moment for me on this trip. This was just so fresh and almost invigorating in a strange way. Love this, and I really thought I was not going to. Big tick in the box for this dish. Really different, so very good. The little balls are bladders to make the seaweed float (if you were wondering).
Here we go. This was one of the very best versions of this dish ever. We ordered two in fact. This is an eggplant that they fry with onion, tomato, and egg. It forms this quasi-omelet. The eggplant almost melts into this delicious puree. Dip this in native sauce and holy moly, best thing ever. Wow, this is so good. Two times so good!
I am never a big fan of ‘wet’ Sisig. So when looking at this I was a little ‘not sure’. But I have taught myself not to eat with my eyes. I mixed this up on the sizzling platter and gave it a go. Holy cow, or pig. This is, without doubt, one of the best-tasting Sisig ever, if not for the ‘slime’ it could be up there with the absolute overall best. Remember that Sisig blog? This was superb, truly.

Welcome to Causeway Foodhub Panglao, the ultimate destination for culinary indulgence! It’s up there as a best-in-class family favourite now. As you step inside, you’ll be greeted by friendly faces and a lively ambiance that instantly puts you in a chillax mood. I love sitting here, watching the busy traffic f the causeway, people-watching and just chilling to the toons. It’s just wonderful.
Causeway Foodhub Panglao is a vibrant culinary destination that offers a wide array of delicious dishes in a lively and inviting atmosphere. Discover hidden gems, and unforgettable flavours that will keep you coming back for more. It’s an absolute cracker. To close, I hope you like dogs, as there are at least 5 or 6 harmless ferals roaming through the food court. The advisory is: ignore them.
It’s just seriously cool here. Made from stacked-up shipping containers, 2 stories high with views of the sea, and Bohol’s main island back to Tagbilaran City. It’s just superb. Great location for watching sunsets too. We’ll now share a handful of the ~10 hawker stalls within Causeway Foodhub on Panglao.
Boat Sushi House
This is the Japanese stall. Do not let looks deceive you: surely good food cannot come from such a small unit? These guys churn out some of the most amazing Pork and Beef Ramen, like up there good. Plus try some of their Sashimi. It’s incredible, so fresh, and top-drawer quality, but at hawker prices. These guys are one of our ultimate favourites in Causeway Foodhub.
What do you think they serve at Chicken Choi? Answers on a postcard. Yes, they serve chicken and serve it very well. They have a massive variety of chicken wings, from fried to covered in sublime sauces. Get some beers, get to Chicken Choi, and get your fingers messy and licked. Enjoy the best beer food in Causeway Food Hub.
Dog Giant Texas' Steak
Not the best steals you’re ever going to have on Bohol, you’d need a trip to Smoque Bistro and Bar for that. But, they’re OK, and for a super-cheap price. A great choice for when you’ve had enough Lechon or Sisig. Spice it up with some full-on Western -fare from these guys. Plus what a cool name: Dog Giant.
These guys are also a massive family favourite, also owners of the bar, and Japanese. How good is that? This is Tito’s, with a pig as a logo you can’t go wrong in my reckoning. At Tito’s you have to try: Inasal Pecho (BBQ chicken), and their Bellychon 1/2 KG. Two incredibly wonderful versions of our local Filipino cuisine. @BeProud Tito’s: brilliant food guys.
AWSME BRGRS & Tenders
AWSME BRGRS & Tenders
To be honest, I have never eaten here, but it does have AWS in the title so I am including AWSME Burgers in this review haha. However, what I can say is that it is always busy, so perhaps I need to get one of their Smash Burgers in me one day. Check those prices again, super-cheap for the incredible food these stalls are plating up at Causeway Food Hub Panglao.
I just love this place’s name: Blood Pressure. Check that logo. Just awesome. These guys knock it out of the park with monster platters of all things porky and meaty. Recently though to put some icing on their big-bad cake they have purchased a big meat slicer (so envious). That bad boy is used to slice shabu-shabu style meat cuts, and they serve those up for Mookata-style hotplate cooking on your table. BOOMSKI!!! My next dinner here is absolutely that.

Cafe Racer Diner, Bohol
There is a really uber cool Bohol restaurant called Cafe Racer Diner, Panglao which is situated in Bohol, the Philippines. It is renowned for its cafe racer-themed decor and menu and has earned favorable reviews. Every time I come here I can’t stop singing ‘Take on Me’ by AhHa. Based on 4 reviews, the restaurant has a TripAdvisor rating of 4 out of 5. It is ranked #56 out of 95 restaurants in Panglao and provides a range of food types from burgers, pizzas, BBQ, and local Filipino cuisine.
The restaurant’s official Facebook page is called Cafe Racer Diner – Bohol. Based on 652 votes, it gets a 3.2 out of 5-star rating.
Cafe Racer accepts orders for pick-up and delivery and is situated in Fonacier, Central Nautical Hwy, Pob, Dauis, Bohol.
We like it here as it is live music every day of the week, it’s a great location, uber cool decor, and the food is OK. It’s not like WOW, amazing, but it’s OK. The staff is really nice and super attentive and it is airy and breezy. It’s just cool, you know?
See what I mean about the Uber cool? This is just the drinks prep area, cum bar. I WANT ONE for the house. Check out the monster milkshakes that get churned out from here. Bosh!!!
Here’s a first for a food blog restaurant review. Maybe? I could not leave out the gent’s urinals at Cafe Racer on Panglao. It’s urban chic and some when you use car doors at the urinal separator, and a rusty oil drum for the sink. Genius! Love it.
This is the Cafe Racer Diner Oreo Cheesecake MilkShake: OMG!!!
The Cafe Racer Cheeseburger is a pretty damned good smash burger for any day of the week, and well worth a go. Seasoned really well, charred nicely, absolutely hand-made ground beef, and some quality cheese with slaw in there too.

The House of Lechon: Bohol
This popular Bohol restaurant The House of Lechon is situated in Tagbilaran City. It’s a newly discovered one for us, despite it being here for over two years and just up the road from Island City Mall, dear me. Hey, we found it now.
The eatery, which is well-known for its delectable lechon—a traditional Filipino cuisine made from a slow-roasted pig—offers a selection of Filipino cuisine specialties in a warm and inviting setting. The House of Lechon, which started in Cebu and now has a presence in Bohol, serves up its renowned lechon to both locals and visitors.
Lechon and other Cebuano specialties are among the dishes that the restaurant takes great satisfaction in serving. There are several delectable delicacies on the menu, including lechon sisig, lechon paksiw, and lechon kare-kare. Visitors can savour the genuine flavors of Filipino food and indulge in the House of Lechon’s signature delicious roasted pig.
You can anticipate a warm and welcoming setting when dining at the House of Lechon in Bohol. Since the restaurant is open all day, from 10 AM till 9 PM, patrons can eat whenever they like. What makes you feel a little strange is the decor, it’s uber modern and super-cool, which is unlike any lechon house I have ever been to before. Usually, they are much more ‘rural’.
What was strange though was the end of the evening. They just bring the bill halfway through the dunner: er, I am still eating and ordering… please take it back. They won’t. So then I made a point of ordering 2-3 times more, and every time a new receipt would arrive. Not so good for the planet. Then, when it is near closing time they will all sit and stand and stare at you until you finish and leave. Really weird. Warm welcoming, cold exiting. Bizarre!!!
Check it out. The House of Lechon interior. Like some swanky New York restaurant, like no Lechon House I have ever seen. It’s really cool though, like a modern take on something very old and traditional in Filipino cuisine.
Anyone who has this logo gets my vote for sure. How brilliant is that? I want it for my house in Dauis, on the wall by my bar. Just AWESOME.
Yeah, the family went hard for dinner today. Here is tray number one of the delicious goodies from The House of Lechon Bohol. I highly recommend: deep-fried chicken skin, the lechon of course, cheese sticks, and crispy Kang Kong.
A must-try with the food here is their spicy vinegar native sauce, which is just WOW!!! I asked if I could buy a bottle, but sadly no.
Finally, I’ll say it again. Anyone who serves up food in something like this is immediately going to get my foodie vote. I want one, I want one NOW. Bloody brilliant. Dipping gravy for a nose, delicious succulent pork lechon and crackling, and ear troughs for your native sauce concoctions. Damn. I WANT ONE!!!
