Australia: one of the best places to travel in Asia

Get yourself to the country down under if you want to experience winter in June. or Christmas in July as we called it when we lived in Melbourne. The seasons in Australia are the complete antithesis of those in the Southern Hemisphere. It’s huge and also one of the best countries to visit in Asia.

And, in Melbourne, it is also known as 4-seasons-in-one-day. Yes, on my first day there I left our serviced apartment in shorts and a t-shirt in the baking hot sun. 500 yards later we were running for cover as it was pelting down with golfball-sized hail stones. Welcome to Melbourne, haha. Australia is all about wearing layers.

Also, don’t be put off as there are a lot of myths about snakes slithering down the streets and so on. Yes, it does it’s more than the average share of nasty things that will eat, sting, bite and so on, Hey, that’s why they call it ‘the bush’.

The months of December through February make up summer, which is also the busiest time of year for tourists. This is also the time of year when residents take their annual summer vacation, which lasts from December to January.

The Australian summer is notorious for its high temperatures. We got up to 40+ one year in Melbourne, literally, shops were shut because the aircon could, not cope, you could cook an egg on the sidewalk, but still, people were sub-bathing on the beach. Crazy Australians.

The months of winter, which span from June to August, are typically the slower months throughout most of Australia. Nevertheless, this is the busiest time of year for destinations such as Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef.

The winters in Australia are typically moderate, with very few locations falling below the freezing point. But you can indeed go skiing in the mountains South of Sydney, funnily named The Snowy Mountains. The months of March through May, also known as autumn, and the months of September through November make up the transition seasons (spring).

Be wary of jellyfish during the months of October to April in northern Australia, as well as November to March in northern Western Australia and Queensland, if you intend to go surfing or enjoy other beach activities. Jellyfish season generally runs from these months. And they are nasty buggers from big Box Jellyfish to thumbnail-sized deadly Irukandji.

Timing can play a major role in your trip if you’re an American seeking to visit Australia. Due to its size and diversity, Australia has numerous climates and seasons throughout its various regions. The ideal time to visit Australia can change based on your travel interests.

The seasons should be one of your first considerations when making travel arrangements. The seasons in Australia run counter to those in the Northern Hemisphere. This means that visiting Australia during the winter in the Northern Hemisphere can be a great option if you’re seeking to escape the cold weather in America.

It’s crucial to keep in mind, though, that Australia’s climate varies significantly based on the region. Australia’s northern regions, including Darwin and Cairns, have a tropical environment with hot, muggy summers and mild winters. The southern regions of the nation, including Victoria and Sydney, experience mild winters and warm summers.

We experienced that when we visited Cairns, super humid. But then get yourself out on a boat, or go diving the Great Barrier Reef and you’ll soon cool down.

It is best to avoid traveling during the wet season, which is usually from November to April, if you intend to visit the Great Barrier Reef or other tropical areas in the north. There may be cyclones and a lot of rain during this period, and the weather can be erratic.

When the weather is dry and sunny, between June and October is the ideal time to explore the Great Barrier Reef. You want that high visibility when doing your diving and/or snorkeling.

On the other hand, the summer months of December to February are the best times to travel to the southern regions of the nation, including Melbourne and Sydney. The weather is pleasant and sunny at this time of year, and there are lots of outdoor events and festivals to take part in.

When making travel plans, it’s important to take busy travel seasons into account. School breaks and big occasions like the Australian Open tennis tournament may result in more people and more expensive lodging and travel. Consider traveling in the shoulder season, which is the period between the high and low seasons, if you want to avoid crowds and save money.

The sporting occasions push up the prices and business of Australia. They are mad for sport and even have public holidays for horse races.

When is it cheapest to visit Australia for Americans?

According to the provided web search results, May 1 through the first week of June and again from roughly the third week in July through the third week in September are the cheapest times for Americans to travel to Australia according to InvestoPedia.

The best time to travel to Australia, it should be noted, depends on the experiences and activities you hope to partake in while there. For instance, the chance to see migrating whales, which travel up and down each coast, is one of the best things about exploring Australia’s east and west coasts between May and November according to TravelAnd Leisure.

If you go to Perth, for example, you’ll have a great chance to swim with migrating Whale Sharks, but hey you could also go to Bohol, in the Philippines, and swim and dive with them there 365 days a year.

The autumn months of March through May can also be a good time to visit, with slightly cooler temps and fewer crowds, according to Australia’s official tourist website.

How to get to Australia from America?

There are numerous methods to travel from America to Australia. One choice is to take a cruise, which can leave from ports in North America and offers an opulent and convenient mode of transportation so says Australia.com. You can choose from Celebrity Cruises, Cunard, Holland America, Royal Caribbean, Seabourn, and Silversea.

I will just say though that you will be spending a long, long time at sea before you get to Australia. Depends on what your intent is. Relaxing doing nothing vacay, or actually exploring Australia. If the latter, I’d fly.

By far the best choice to get into the action is to take a flight, which is available from many major American cities to important Australian cities like Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Darwin as advised by United Airlines. For passengers coming from other American cities, there are layover alternatives as well.

Hong Kong, also known as the Pearl of the Orient, is a cosmopolitan metropolis that is famous for its cuisine and shopping. These are two of the activities that Singaporeans enjoy doing the most. Oh yeah, and horse racing at ‘Happy Valley’. What a name for a place you’re likely to lose all your money.

I hadn’t visited as a tourist until recently, and now I tell you what, Hong Kong is up there as one of the best countries to visit in Asia.

From October until December, Hong Kong experiences a pleasant winter climate, making this period the busiest time of year for tourists. During this time, there is no shortage of Christmas and New Year’s celebrations. The Chinese Lunar New Year, which occurs at the end of January or the beginning of February, is another important holiday that is celebrated in a big way with festivities all over the place, including fireworks galore.

The months of July and August are the most likely months to experience typhoons. The shoulder season lasts from March to May and features warming, milder weather. The monsoon season lasts from June to September and includes the months of July and August.

Avoid the months of October through December (winter), as well as the Chinese New Year celebrations in January and February as that will bump your prices up massively with lots of families reuniting.

Consider the months of March to May as prime targets for the most affordable times to visit.

Hong Kong Flag

The city of Hong Kong is renowned for its tall skyscrapers, thriving public markets, and distinctive fusion of Eastern and Western cultures. There are a number of considerations for Americans planning trips to Hong Kong to ensure a successful journey.

Conditions for entry

For stays up to 90 days, American tourists do not require a visa to access Hong Kong. But you need a passport that will be good for at least another six months after your intended travel date. It’s also essential to keep in mind that mainland China and Hong Kong have different entry requirements, so if you intend to travel to both places, you might require different visas.

hong kong at night

Getting around Hong Kong is easy with a variety of transportation choices once you arrive. With trains operating frequently throughout the day, the Mass Transit Railway (MTR) is the most effective and reasonably priced mode of transportation.

Public trams and buses in Hong Kong are also an excellent way to get around. Although more costly, taxis are available everywhere. For island hopping, you’ll need to jump on the numerous ferries or even rent a Chinese junk as a group and go exploring.

What to Do and See

Tourists can find plenty to see and do in the vibrant metropolis of Hong Kong. Victoria Peak, the Big Buddha on Lantau Island, and the Hong Kong Museum of History are a few of the best attractions. Street food, Michelin-starred restaurants, and tea stores can be found all over the city, which will appeal to foodies.

A shopping paradise, Hong Kong offers everything from upscale shops to regional street markets.

My personal favorite in Hong Kong was when we rented a junk, like in the photo below. We spent a day island hopping, and we even swam to shore for our lunch on one tiny island.  Incredible Chinese cuisine was on offer, and then we booze cruised back to Hong Kong with karaoke tunes singing out across the water. What an incredible day with friends.

Life and Safety in Hong Kong

With a low crime rate, Hong Kong is a secure city for traveler However, it’s crucial to be mindful of your surroundings and take security measures to protect your belongings, just like in any large city. Despite the high quality of healthcare in Hong Kong, it is still advisable to have travel insurance to cover any unforeseen medical costs.

According to our search results, Americans can usually travel to Hong Kong for the least amount of money between June and September (TravellersWorldwide). The weather can be hot, humid, and unpredictable because it is monsoon season, but hotel prices are affordable during this time.

Visiting Hong Kong is also thought to be more reasonable in May and June, though costs might increase in June due to the Dragon Boat Festival according to Acko. It’s essential to keep in mind that after New Year’s, Hong Kong sees a significant increase in tourism, which could result in higher prices as reported by USNews.

Air travel is the quickest and most popular method of transportation from America to Hong Kong. Major American towns like New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco all have direct flights to Hong Kong International Airport. Depending on your departure city and airline, flight times can differ, but they typically fall between 12 and 16 hours.

Major carriers like United Airlines, Cathay Pacific, American Airlines, Delta Airlines, and Emirates offer trips to Hong Kong from the United States. To get the best airfare deals, it’s critical to schedule your flight well in preparation. Book ahead to save $$$.

If there aren’t any big airports nearby that offer direct flights to Hong Kong, you might have to take a connecting flight or make a stopover elsewhere. Tokyo, Seoul, and Taipei are a few examples of places that are frequently connected. To our point, why not make it a multiple-country holiday and enjoy those places, not just a bounce-through location?

You can use public transit, like the Mass Transit Railway (MTR), to get where you’re going in Hong Kong after landing at the airport. At the airport, there are also taxis and buses accessible. To cover travel and other costs, it is advised to have some Hong Kong money (Hong Kong dollars) on hand.

All inbound visitors, including those who are not Hong Kong residents, will not be subject to any vaccination requirements when visiting Hong Kong, according to the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York

The main airport in Hong Kong, Hong Kong International Airport, offers direct flights from many large US cities, making air travel to Hong Kong simple and practical. You can get in touch with the US Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macau with any questions or requests for information.

Transportation in Vietnam is primarily accomplished by taxis, buses, and railroads. It’s important to negotiate the fare before getting in a taxi and be cautious of scams. There is also the widely available and super-cheap tuk-tuk, or just soak it up and walk. There is so much to see from the street in Vietnam.

Best locations: Saigon (Ho Chi Minh), Hoi An, Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Sapa, and Hue are a few of the top locations in Vietnam. South Korea: best Asian country to visit

Travel to the home of K-pop and K-drama, and who knows? You might run into your favorite star while you’re there. For Americans who just can’t get enough of the Hallyu wave or Korean dramas on Netflix, South Korea is another favorite travel destination.

The busiest times for tourism are in the spring (April to May) and fall (September to November), just like in Japan, which has a climate that is very comparable (September to October). The fall season is highly regarded for its beautiful scenery.

The typhoon season begins in July, and the school year typically ends somewhere between the middle of July and the end of August.

South Korea’s low and winter season runs from December to February (even Jeju can be chillier than expected), but you should try to avoid visiting during Seollal, also known as the Korean New Year or Lunar New Year because many establishments in the cities are likely to be closed during this time as residents travel back to their hometowns to celebrate.

It’s best to steer clear of the following months: September and October for fall, July and August for typhoon season, and April and May for spring.

Try: the month of June, December through February (winter).

For Americans, South Korea has to be an intriguing place to visit, with such an integrated history of old. Before going to South Korea, keep in mind the following:

Most visitors, including those from the US, Australia, and the UK, can visit South Korea without a passport for up to 90 days (up to six months for Canadians). COVID-19 recommendations: As of January 23, 2023, South Korea has removed the requirement for wearing masks, with the exception of places like hospitals, pharmacies, and public transportation. Additionally, visitors from China must show a negative PCR test that was completed within 48 hours of their entry.

Budget: For tourists on a tighter budget, a daily allowance of $30 to $40 may be adequate. Mid-range tourists should set aside $50 to $100 per day for lodging and entertainment.

South Korea has a well-developed public transportation infrastructure that includes buses, subways, and high-speed trains. The availability of taxis is also widespread, but they can be expensive during peak hours.

Korean Food

Korean cuisine is known for its spicy and flavorful dishes, such as kimchi, bibimbap, and Korean barbecue. When you visit South Korea please sample some regional specialties, there are so many delicious foods to sample.

Singaporeans frequently choose to take weekend trips to Thailand because it is only a brief flight away from their home country. Thailand is known as the “land of smiles.” However, it also has a lot to offer tourists who are planning to remain for a longer period of time, such as beautiful beaches and a lively capital city. ISLIFEARECIPE gives Thailand a must-visit rating.

The people, culture, food, history, and scenic views are just exceptional.

November through February is the height of Thailand’s tourism season, which also happens to be the period when the climate is at its most pleasant and least rainy. Thankfully, the low seasons that span the hot season (April and June) and the rainy season (June and October) should be bearable for the average Singaporean who is used to rushing between the various malls in search of shelter and air conditioning.

The hot season occurs between the months of April and June, and the rainy season occurs between the months of June and October.

If you are thinking about traveling to the islands, you should know that the rainy season on the Andaman shore and the Gulf of Thailand is not the same. During the monsoon season (June–October), you should stay away from Phuket, the Phi Phi Islands, and any other islands that are located along the Andaman (west) shore.

Places like Ko Samui, Ko Phangan, and Ko Tao, which are located on the eastern side of the Gulf of Thailand, are subject to monsoon rainfall from October until December. During the monsoon season, many resorts and islands will be closed, but this could be a good opportunity to find deals on vacation packages.

Also, steer clear of the Songkran Festival in April if you aren’t a fan of being doused with water at unforeseen times.

Avoid: November through February, and April during Songkran.

The summer season runs from April to June, and the shoulder season runs from June to October (rainy season)

Thailand is a stunning and friendly vacation spot for Americans. Before visiting Thailand, be sure to keep in mind the following:

Best time to go: The dry season, which runs from November to April, is the best time to explore Thailand. Despite the fact that this is also the busiest travel period, you can anticipate milder weather and idyllic days for outdoor activities. Be ready for more expensive travel and lodging costs as well as congested beaches in well-known destinations like Phuket and Krabi.

COVID-19 requirements: All travelers entering Thailand must show a Certificate of Entry and a medical certificate that states they have undergone an RT-PCR test and received a negative result, both of which must be given no later than 72 hours before departure.

Before departing, it is advisable to confirm the most recent regulations since they can alter frequently. This was the latest position at the time of publishing this blog.

Safety: In general, tourists can journey safely to Thailand. Tourist-related crimes are comparatively uncommon, and visitors are welcomed in Thai society. To protect yourself and your possessions, you should use common sense and adopt safety measures.

bangkok thailand temple

Thai culture is distinct and deeply Buddhist. It’s critical to observe regional traditions and customs, which include taking off your shoes before entering temples and dressing modestly. Yes, we had to wear saris when visiting temples on a few occasions, respecting the no-exposed flesh culture.

Food: Bold flavors and fresh ingredients are hallmarks of Thai food. During your stay, make sure to sample dishes like pad Thai, green curry, laab gai, and mango sticky rice.

Best vacation spots: Some of Thailand’s most popular vacation spots are Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Koh Samui. To make the most of your trip and discover more about the cultures and histories of each location, think about joining a guided journey.

We will give you some links below to click on and get major discounts from Klook Thailand including wonderful excursions across this beautiful country.

Altogether, American visitors can expect to have a memorable trip to Thailand. Thailand offers something to appeal to every tourist, from its beautiful beaches to its delectable cuisine and rich culture.

ao nang island thailand beaches

Thailand’s low season, which goes from May to October, is the most affordable time to travel there, with the month of March being the least expensive. Flooding, however, could result from this period’s heavy rainfall. Remember that this is also the low tourist season, which means there will likely be fewer visitors but that some sites and lodgings might be closed.

Cost of flights: Flying from the States or Europe to Thailand can be time- and money-consuming. Think about traveling between April and October to reduce flight expenses.

Cost of lodging: Thailand’s lodging costs decline during the shoulder seasons in the spring and autumn, which can be a rewarding time to travel without the winter crowds.

Significant reductions in hotel prices also occur during the low season, which runs from July to September, but some ferry routes and island resorts might be closed. Below we’ve given you links to our BFFs at Booking.com and Klook Thailand to get discounted rates off accommodation in-country.

Ultimately, American tourists visiting Thailand can save a lot of money by going during the off-season. However, it’s crucial to be conscious that during this time there may be closures of attractions or lodging due to heavy rain. Think about striking a balance between your travel budget and the adventures and activities you want to have.

Flying is the simplest method of travel from the United States to Thailand. Major US airports like San Francisco, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, Houston, Boston, New York/Newark, and Washington, D.C. offer numerous direct and indirect flight options to Thailand’s primary international airport, Suvarnabhumi Airport, in Bangkok.

To discover the best flights with the quickest travel times and lowest prices, travelers can also use travel planning websites like Rome2Rio and Skyscanner. However, it is significant to note that the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic-related entry requirements and travel limitations may affect how simple it is to travel between the US and Thailand.

For the most recent information and recommendations, travelers should visit the official web pages of the Thai Embassy and airlines.

The land of Manga, geishas, sushi, bullet trains, and Mount Fuji, Japan is a well-liked travel destination for people from Singapore. In spite of the linguistic barrier, getting around in Japan is surprisingly simple, and the favorable exchange rate is yet another significant benefit.

The best time to view sakura, cherry blossoms, is during the spring months of March to May, and the best time to view autumn foliage is during the fall season of September to November. Both of these seasons run from March to November.

The Christmas and New Year’s holidays, which fall in December and January, the celebrations of Golden Week, which take place from the end of April through the beginning of May, and the Obon Festival, which takes place in August are also times when local tourism is at its height.

The low and shoulder seasons, which run from June to August, coincide with Singapore’s school vacations and the Japanese summer, both of which are times of year that tourists prefer to avoid due to the wet, humid, and warm weather.

If, on the other hand, you plan to visit Japan’s mountainous regions or the northern part of the country (hello, Hokkaido!), you may find that the temperatures are still relatively mild, particularly in comparison to Singapore.

Hokkaido is likely where you will find the best cuts of beef you have ever had in your life. Hokkaido Snow Wagyu is Japanese Wagyu Grade A5 all the way. Worth a trip just to get some of this in your stomach.

Alternately, the winter season, which lasts from December to February, is an excellent time to visit if you enjoy the cold weather and want to experience it to the fullest. On the other hand, given that it is the peak of the ski season, you should probably avoid going to any mountain resorts. ISLIFEARECIPE recently did some Japanese skiing and Japanese dining, and it was quality.

There is a good chance that stores and restaurants will be closed for the Christmas and New Year holidays in Japan because the Japanese people put a lot of importance on these celebrations. If you’re fortunate, the warm weather will bring an early start to the hanami season. If not, you can always travel south to Okinawa, where the sakura blooms as early as January.

Avoid traveling during the months of December and January, which are Christmas and New Year’s holidays; the spring months of March to May (especially Golden Week in late April/early May); the Japanese summer holidays, which begin in July and continue through August; and the fall months of September to November.

Summer months are June through August, and winter months are December through February (winter).

Japan flag

Americans as well as tourists from other countries are constantly drawn to the intriguing country of Japan. Japan provides a memorable travel experience for everyone with its distinct culture, stunning scenery, and delectable cuisine.

Japan travel season

Depending on your tastes and travel schedule, there is no ideal time to visit Japan. The cherry blossom season, which typically lasts from late March to early April, is when tourism is at its busiest. However, this is also the most expensive and crowded period to travel.

Consider visiting Japan in the autumn (September to November) or winter if you want to avoid the crowds (December to February). You can take advantage of the pleasant weather, stunning foliage, and winter events during these seasons.

Getting to Japan

Tokyo is the most frequently traveled location on flights from the United States to Japan. Japan Airlines, ANA, Delta, United, and American Airlines are some of the major carriers that offer flights to Japan. While trips from the East Coast can take up to 14 hours, those from the West Coast can take as little as 10 to 12 hours.

How to navigate Japan?

Japan has an extremely efficient transportation infrastructure that makes getting around the nation simple. The train, which travels through most of Japan, is the most widely used mode of transit. Traveling between big cities is quick and easy with the shinkansen (bullet train). Japan also has a sizable bus and subway system, both of which are particularly helpful for navigating towns.

Trains are renowned for being on time, to the second. But be prepared for the pusher-onners. Yes, platform staff are paid to squeeze people into the train carriages during the busiest periods. Literally, you are squashed like sardines in a can. It’s really quite funny, but can be a little intimidating for those not used to it.

Destinations in Japan

There are many incredible places to visit in Japan. Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima, and Sapporo are a few of the must-see locations. You can take in the vibrant city life, explore ancient temples and sanctuaries, and savor delectable cuisine in Tokyo.

While Osaka is well-known for its street cuisine and exciting nightlife, Kyoto is renowned for its stunning temples and gardens. Despite its tragic past, Hiroshima is a picturesque metropolis with a vibrant culture. The northern island of Hokkaido is home to breathtaking scenery and recreational pursuits.

Activities in Japan

Depending on your hobbies, Japan has a wide variety of activities. Popular pursuits include exploring nature, going to festivals, eating traditional Japanese food, and touring historical locations like temples and shrines. You can experience Japan’s distinctive contemporary culture, such as anime and manga, in locales like Tokyo’s Akihabara.

I’d recommend a food tour, getting as much sushi, sashimi, ramen, and wagyu down your throat as possible. It will also get you out and about in the stunning cities that Japan has to offer. It’s such a great way to see the sites, and of course, to sustain your body. Hey, we all need to eat, right?

If you have kids don’t forget Disney and Disney Sea Tokyo. It’s like American Disney on steroids. Come see Mickey Mouse in a kimono. It’s just such fun. You can book discounted hotels below through our mates at Booking.com and Klook.

In summary, Japan is a wonderful travel location that provides a distinctive and memorable experience. Japan has something to offer everyone, from its incredible scenery and delectable cuisine to its wealthy culture and delectable cuisine. So prepare for a once-in-a-lifetime journey by packing your bags!

The low season, which runs from May to October, is the least expensive period to visit Japan. It’s crucial to keep in mind that this time frame encompasses the rainy season, which can have an impact on travel arrangements.

When visiting Japan during this time, tourists can still have a good time if they pack the right rain gear and make plans for indoor activities in case of severe downpour. Purchasing a JR pass can result in substantial financial savings on train travel across the entire nation.

For four people’s daily expenditures, which include food, transport, and sightseeing, a week in Japan can cost anywhere between $384 and $794.

There are two main choices for getting to Japan from America if you’re planning a trip.

By air:

From a number of American cities, there are direct flights to Tokyo and other significant Japanese places. To compare rates and purchase tickets, look for flights on websites like Expedia or Kayak. Major carriers that offer flights to Japan include United Airlines, Delta, All Nippon Airways, and Japan Airlines. The average travel time from the West Coast to Japan is 11 to 12 hours.

By boat:

Between the United States and Japan, there are also cruise cruises. These trips offer a distinct travel experience, but they can take several weeks and can be quite expensive. Princess Cruises, Royal Caribbean, and Celebrity Cruises are a few of the well-known cruise companies that offer excursions to Japan.

Research the entry criteria for foreign visitors before traveling to Japan from the United States, regardless of the route you choose. All visitors to Japan are currently required to show evidence of immunization or the results of a COVID-19 test that was completed within 72 hours of departure. Before entering Japan, you might also need to request permission from the Japanese consulate or embassy in your nation.

You can benefit from Japan’s first-rate public transportation infrastructure once you get there. Think about getting a Japan Rail Pass, which can help you save money on domestic train trips. Convenience stores, which are widespread across the nation, also offer a variety of inexpensive food choices. Your journey to Japan from America can be memorable and enjoyable with a little bit of planning and preparation!

If traveling to different islands is something that interests you, Indonesia, which is home to the world’s biggest archipelago as well as five major islands and approximately 30 smaller groups of islands, will provide you with the most opportunities. Americans can travel to many other islands in Indonesia besides popular destinations such as Bali and Bintan.

The dry season runs from about the middle of April all the way through September, while the rainy season runs from about the middle of October all the way through about the middle of April. The months of July through August and December are the busiest times for tourists. The months of May, June, and September make up the shoulder season, while the months of January through April make up the low season.

When planning a trip to Bali, visitors should be aware of Nyepi, also known as the “Balinese Day of Silence.” On this day, the Balinese observe a day of stillness, fasting, and meditation. This day typically falls in the month of March.

Within their own hotel rooms, tourists are not required to comply with the restrictions; however, they are not permitted to work, engage in activities that provide entertainment or pleasure, or journey outside of the hotel.

Since the sole airport in Bali is closed for the duration of the day, you won’t be able to access the island’s beaches or roadways, nor will you be able to fly out of the island.

Avoid the months of April through September, particularly July and August, as well as Nyepi in March and December.

We’d recommend the months of January to April.

Indonesia is a stunning nation with a wide variety of civilizations, environments, and experiences. Before beginning your trip to Indonesia as an American traveler, there are a few things you should be aware of. The following advice will help you have a successful trip:

Best time to visit Indonesia:

The dry season, which runs from May to September, is the best period to travel there. During this time, the weather is sunny and dry, perfect for exploring the country’s many outdoor activities. Although Indonesia experiences a wet season from October to April, it’s still a lovely time to travel to some areas of the country.

Accessing Indonesia from the United States is made possible by a number of carriers, including United, Delta, and Qatar Airways. Jakarta and Bali are the most popular entry sites into Indonesia.

Getting around Indonesia:

Due to the size of the nation and the sheer number of islands, getting around can be a little difficult. Airlines like Lion Air, Garuda Indonesia, and AirAsia operate frequent trips within the islands, making domestic travel convenient and reasonably priced.

In bigger towns, you can also use taxis and ride-sharing apps, but make sure to haggle the price before getting in. You can also island hop on fast ferries, click our Klook Indonesia button below for discounted ferry tours and things to do in this vast archipelago.

indonesia temple

The country of Indonesia offers a wide variety of activities. Popular pursuits include visiting Bali’s beaches, climbing Mount Rinjani on the island of Lombok, surfing on Bali, and learning about Java’s historic temples. Don’t neglect to sample the delectable regional cuisine and acquaint yourself with the nation’s many cultures.

Cultural expectations:

Because Indonesia is primarily a Muslim nation, it is essential to dress modestly and show respect for traditional practices. Prior to entering a person’s house or a place of worship, it’s also customary to take off your shoes.

Conversely, Bali is 90% Hindu, which is quite unique as one island of 1,000’s with a completely different religious bias.

Between Java to the west and Lombok to the east, in the westernmost portion of the Lesser Sunda Islands, is the Indonesian island of Bali. It is a well-liked vacation spot renowned for its beaches, temples, picturesque scenery, and distinctive cultural customs.

Bali is renowned for its artistic legacy as well, which includes intricate woodcarvings, intricate textiles, and traditional music and dance. The Balinese people are renowned for their profound spirituality and adherence to their norms and traditions, and the island is home to numerous Hindu temples and shrines.

Any traveler to Indonesia is bound to come away with a deep impression of this fascinating nation. Indonesia is a must-visit location for any adventurous traveler because of its beautiful natural landscapes, diverse cultural experiences, and mouthwatering food.

The cheapest period for Americans to travel to Indonesia, according to our research, is typically late November to early December. But due to the favorable weather, decreased tourist traffic, and lower costs during the shoulder seasons, which are from March to June and from September to November, it is also advised as a good time.

Remember that Indonesia’s wet season lasts from December to February, which may bring more rain but also less traffic and cheaper costs.

There are various routes one can take to get from America to Indonesia. United Airlines provides direct flights to a number of locations in Indonesia from key US cities including San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, Houston, Denver, Chicago, New York/Newark, and Honolulu.

Another choice is to use a travel search tool like Rome2rio to evaluate the costs and duration of each mode of transportation from your starting point to your intended Indonesian destination.

New Zealand: best place in Asia to travel?

Another country in the Southern Hemisphere to take into consideration is New Zealand, also known as the land of hobbits or just beautiful cinematic scenery.

A nation made up of the North Island, the South Island, and ~70 lesser islands, New Zealand is situated in the southwest Pacific Ocean. The biggest city is Auckland, and Wellington is the capital. New Zealand is a well-known location for outdoor activities like hiking, skiing, and surfing because of its breathtaking natural scenery, which includes mountains, beaches, forests, and lakes.

The population of the nation is diverse, with the three biggest ethnic groups being the indigenous Maori, Pacific Islanders, and Europeans. Additionally, New Zealand is renowned for its dedication to environmental sustainability and for its advanced social policies, including free public education and access to healthcare.

Aotearoa (Māori: [aɔˈtɛaɾɔa]) is the current Māori-language name for New Zealand. The name was originally used by Māori in reference to only the North Island, with the name of the whole country being Aotearoa me Te Waipounamu (“North Island and South Island”). The land of the Long White Cloud.

New Zealand is the same as Australia, in that the seasons are backward. The summertime, specifically the months of December through March, is the busiest months of the year. The months of December and January make up the summer vacation.

The months of March and April are considered to be autumn, with moderate weather that, depending on the location, may persist all the way into April. The Easter holidays consist of a four-day extended weekend, which typically falls during a time of high demand.

The beginning of winter and the snowboard season is in June. Travel to New Zealand in the month of July for the Matariki celebrations, which mark the beginning of the Māori new year. Although spring officially begins in September, snowboard season typically comes to an end in the month of October.

Avoid: the summer months of December through February, the Easter vacation in April, and the months of June through October (ski season)

Try for the months of June to August for the fall, September to November for the spring, and March to May for the autumn (winter)

Americans frequently travel to New Zealand to take in the breathtaking scenery, distinctive culture, and welcoming locals.

New Zealand Flag

Passport prerequisites

Americans who intend to stay in New Zealand for less than three months must register for an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) before leaving. Applying for an Estimate online is possible, and you should do so at least 72 hours before your flight.

When to Travel

The warmest months in New Zealand’s temperate environment are December through February, and the coolest months are June through August. Expect larger crowds and higher prices during the summer months of December to February, which are the peak tourism season.

With fewer tourists and cheaper prices, the shoulder seasons from March to May and September to November can be excellent times to travel.

Getting There

Air New Zealand, American Airlines, and United Airlines are just a few of the carriers that fly from the US to NZ. You can take a direct flight to Auckland, Wellington, or Christchurch from Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Houston.

As an alternative, you could take a trip with layovers or think about taking a cruise out of Florida or California. But that will take weeks at sea. It really depends on what you’re after from your vacation.

Getting Around New Zealand’s transit network is well-developed and includes domestic flights, trains, and buses. Driving on the left side of the road in New Zealand means renting a car or campervan can be a wonderful way to see the country at your own speed.

What to Do

Numerous sports are available in New Zealand, such as hiking, skiing, surfing, and wine tasting. I love that last sport. Milford Sound, Fiordland National Park, Tongariro National Park, and the Bay of Islands are a few of the area’s well-known landmarks. Visit a marae or take in a cultural performance to learn more about Maori society.

Food and beverage

Fresh shellfish, lamb, and wine are well-known specialties of New Zealand. Fish and fries, meat pies, and pavlova are a few of the most widely consumed foods. The renowned Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay wines of the nation are also available for tasting at farms all over the place.

To sum up, visiting New Zealand as an American can be a fun and worthwhile experience to learn about the nation’s sights, customs, and food.

When is it cheapest to visit New Zealand for Americans?

The North Island and the South Island make up the nation of New Zealand, which is known for its diverse natural landscapes that otherwise too few places have managed to preserve. Traveling to New Zealand is therefore the best option for an inexpensive vacation (after airfares, of course, because, yes, New Zealand is pretty isolated).

It is free to explore many of the country’s natural wonders. All you have to do is use the helpful advice we provide in this travel guide to New Zealand on a budget to plan a journey to New Zealand that won’t break the bank on lodging, food, transportation, and other expenses.

See our links below to our mates at Booking.com and Klook New Zealand for discounted hotels, and Klook New Zealand for discounts on the top things to do when in the country.

The time of year you travel, how far in advance you book, where you are coming from, the type of ticket you purchase, and the path you take to get to New Zealand are all variables that affect airfare. We have some general advice to bear in mind, even though precise money-saving airfare tips are practically impossible given the constantly shifting environment.

Flying to New Zealand is most affordable in the country’s spring, winter, and fall seasons (between July and November). The most expensive times of year to fly to New Zealand are during the summer and especially around Christmas.

Flying is typically more affordable during “inconvenient periods” of the day, such as late at night or early in the morning, as well as during the middle of the week as opposed to the weekend.

Avoid traveling to New Zealand in the summer if you want to save the most money (December to February). The peak season for travel is now. Flights, excursions, and accommodations typically cost more as a result.

The shoulder seasons, which are from March to May and from September to November, offer warmer temperatures than the winter as well as more affordable vacation options.

With the exception of visiting some of the snow resort towns, such as Queenstown, Wanaka, and Ohakune, the off-season, or winter, is the least expensive time to travel. Check out Renting a Campervan in Winter: New Zealand Road Trip Tips if you’re going on a campervan journey.

The summer months of December to March, however, are the best for traveling to New Zealand because they offer the country’s outdoor activities like hiking and mountain bicycling as well as long, bright, sunny days.

With the exchange rate of ~1 USD = 1.39 NZD, a roundtrip flight from the US to New Zealand can cost anywhere between $900 and $1476 USD. These are typical expenses for a two-week trip to New Zealand; they could change based on the traveler’s tastes and manner of travel.

How to get to New Zealand from America?

Straight flight

Air New Zealand, American Airlines, and United Airlines are just a few of the carriers that fly nonstop from the US to NZ. These flights usually fly to Auckland, Wellington, or Christchurch from major cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Houston. Compared to flights with layovers, direct flights can be more expensive but can also save you time and trouble.

Layovers on Flights

Taking a flight with one or more layovers is another method to travel to New Zealand from the United States. Sydney, Hong Kong, and Tokyo are a few well-liked stopover locations.

Depending on your preferences and price range, you can pick the location of your layover. It is advised to schedule your layover so you have enough time to make your connecting flight and, if you have time, explore the city.

The southeast Asian nation of Cambodia is renowned for its extensive past, exquisite temples, and breathtaking natural scenery. Here are some suggestions to help American travelers make the most of their time in Cambodia.

The Southeast Asian nation of Cambodia is situated between Laos to the Northeast, Vietnam to the East, Thailand to the Northwest, and the Gulf of Thailand to the Southwest. Phnom Penh is the nation’s capital and biggest city.

The Khmer Empire, which thrived in Cambodia between the ninth and fifteenth centuries and left behind stunning architectural wonders like the Angkor Wat temple complex, is one of the country’s most notable historical figures.

Beautiful beaches, lush rainforests, and lively culture with traditional music and dance can all be found in the nation. Despite a turbulent past marred by war and political unrest, Cambodia is quickly developing and growing in popularity as a travel and business destination.

They also have the very best pepper on the planet. It’s a must if you are a foodie. It is so respected internationally that the pepper has Unesco recognition. This pepper is Kampot pepper. It is so unique and floral in its palate. I have kilos of the stuff. Must-try.

Purchase a visa in advance

American visitors to Cambodia require both a visa and a current passport. Although you can get a visa at the airport, getting one beforehand is advised to prevent long lines and potential delays. Either go to the Cambodian Embassy or Consulate in the US to register for an e-visa.

Go to Angkor Temple.

The most well-known and recognizable temple complex in Cambodia is Angkor Wat, making it a must-see destination for tourists. The world’s biggest religious monument, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The temple complex can be explored, and you can discover its fascinating past and design.

You will literally walk through the main gates and jaw-drop. The scale of this place is insane. It is the biggest religious settlement on the planet and dates back to the 12th Century.

The temple compound known as Angkor Wat is situated in Cambodia’s Siem Reap province. It was initially constructed as a Hindu sanctuary by the Khmer Empire in the early 12th century, and in the late 12th century it was converted to a Buddhist temple. One of the biggest sacred structures in the world, Angkor Wat is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The temple complex is made up of several sizable stone buildings and reservoirs spread across an area of about 162.6 hectares (401 acres), including the well-known main temple tower, which soars to a height of 65 meters. (213 feet). The sanctuary is renowned for its finely detailed carvings and bas-reliefs, which portray scenes from Hindu mythology, as well as for its stunning architecture, which combines elements of both Khmer and Indian styles.

A well-liked tourist location, Angkor Wat serves as a significant representation of Cambodian identity and history.

Take a tour of the floating villages.

Numerous floating communities with stilted homes on the water can be found in Cambodia. You can visit these distinctive communities by boat, find out about their way of life, and even engage in some fishing activities. I’ll add some caution here.

I did this trip with my son once and it is desperately sad in all honesty. These locals will earn something like $50 USD a year. It’s a humbling experience.

I used to visit Cambodia once a year to build little huts on stilts for The Tabitha Foundation, to make the less-fortunate people of Cambodia more sustainable during the flood season. It was such an incredible experience to meet the families you’re impacting, and literally build their new homes.

I wholeheartedly recommend this if you feel like giving something back to others. Pay it forward, folks.

Enjoy the regional food

Cambodian food is a fusion of tastes and effects from nearby nations like Thailand and Vietnam. You can sample regional cuisine including kuy teav, lok lak, and amok (fish stew) (noodle soup).

Additionally, you can go to the neighborhood markets and sample some street fare like grilled skewers, fried noodles, and fresh produce. Be aware though that some of this street food may include insects, spiders, snakes, and even tortoises.

Learn about the Timeline of Cambodia

The tragic and complicated past of Cambodia includes the Khmer Rouge regime in the 1970s. To learn more about the atrocities carried out during this time, you can travel to Phnom Penh and tour the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and the Killing Fields. Even though it is a sobering experience, it is a crucial chapter in Cambodia’s past.

It really is something you should do just once. You must know about this genocide that the Cambodians committed on Cambodians. It is so scary to realize what humans can do to humans. You then realize that when walking the streets that you hardly see pensioners in Cambodia, due to the millions wiped out in a moment in time. It’s literally like the country skipped a generation.

From the middle of the 1960s until his death in 1998, the Khmer Rouge communist movement in Cambodia was headed by the politician and revolutionary Pol Pot. From 1976 to 1979, he presided as prime minister of Democratic Kampuchea, the moniker he gave to the regime that ruled Cambodia.

An estimated 1.7 to 2.2 million Cambodians, or about 25% of the population, perished as a result of executions, forced labor, and hunger under Pol Pot’s policies. Urban areas were forcibly evacuated under the Khmer Rouge rule, money, and private property were outlawed, and communal farms and workplaces were established.

In one of the worst instances of genocide and crimes against humanity in modern history, Pol Pot’s government was accountable for a number of human rights violations. Before going on trial for his crimes, he passed away in 1998 while under house arrest.

The saddest thing is that the rest of the world watched on as this was happening. Cambodia has little or no resources that the Western World wanted, so turned a blind eye to these atrocities. It is so desperately sad. I encourage you to visit so that combined, this never happens again.

Explore the beaches.

Numerous stunning beaches in Cambodia are ideal for unwinding and enjoying the weather. Koh Rong, Koh Kong, and Sihanoukville all have well-liked beaches. Additionally, you can travel to the neighboring islands and go snorkeling or scuba diving.

I am yet to do this but know of those that have and they rave about the stunning seaside locations of this beautiful country.

Remain vigilant and polite.

Although traveling to Cambodia is usually safe, it is always important to exercise caution. Keep your valuables safe and be mindful of your surroundings, particularly in crowded places. Additionally, you should observe regional traditions and customs, such as taking off your shoes before entering a person’s house or covering your shoulders when going to a temple.

As a result of its distinctive combination of culture, history, and natural beauty, Cambodia is an intriguing travel location for Americans. Remember Tom Raider with Angelina Jolie? Well, look below. Yes, all filmed here in the temples around Angkor Wat.

The majority of the action-adventure movie “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” from 2001 was shot in The Angkor Wat complex, Ta Prohm temple, and other locations in the province of Siem Reap.

It’s also important to keep in mind that Cambodia hosts a number of celebrations and events all year long, which could have an impact on the cost of travel and lodging. For instance, prices may be higher during the Khmer New Year, which typically occurs in April and is a popular time for tourists to visit Cambodia.

In conclusion, the low season, which runs from May to October, is the most affordable period for Americans to travel to Cambodia. Booking your vacation early and thinking about going during the shoulder season, though, can also help you save money. When arranging your trip, keep in mind the holidays and events taking place in Cambodia.

Singapore is home to the colloquial tongue known as Singlish. With elements of Malay, Mandarin, Tamil, Hokkien, Cantonese, and other regional languages, it is a distinctive fusion of English which can be seen at the iconic Raffles Hotel Singapore

Singlish is distinguished by its unique syntax, vocabulary, and pronunciation and is frequently spoken quickly and casually. Singaporeans frequently use it in daily conversation, and it is a significant aspect of the community’s culture.

However, standard English has been pushed as the preferred language in official settings like workplaces and schools because Singlish is occasionally criticized for what is perceived as a lack of clarity and correctness. Despite this, Singlish continues to be a vibrant and adored part of Singaporean culture, and many Singaporeans continue to speak it and celebrate it.
