OK, I lie: the football was a brilliant game to the dying end, and Jose and the Tapas Club VivoCity crew had made it accessible to all with massive screens throughout the restaurant. Brilliant fun, incredible atmosphere and quality food and drink a plenty.

#BeProudJose
VIPs galore, including our mate Antonio: Economic and Trade Counsellor for the Spanish Embassy in Singapore. Poor old Antonio, he had to sit the entire game debating with his lovely wife. Yes, he is Madrid and she is Barcelona… Counsellor 2 Vs. Wife 1.
Unveiling some of the dishes from last night's Eat Spain Drink Spain at Tapas Club VivoCity
Here’s the ‘special menu’ for the event this night. Happy with that. Wifey gets stuck into the rather good Spanish Red Wine and yours truly does some damage to barrels of Estrella Galicia. So reasonable, and the food was off-the-charts as you will see below.
Estrella Galicia and 1906. These exceptional brews, renowned for their quality and craftsmanship, have earned a dedicated following among beer connoisseurs. Additionally, the company will also showcase Estrella Galicia Gluten Free, catering to those with specific dietary considerations. These three brands will be the highlight of their participation in the ESDS event, captivating attendees with their remarkable flavors and rich brewing traditions.
We’ve been to Tapas Club so many times now, all three venues in fact. The food, the beer, and the crew truly make it a top restaurant from Spain. We even love going to Jewel and using Tapas Club there as a bar – people watching on steroids there. Love it. It’s worth a go, believe me. Sit at the bar, order a beer, and get some of the bar snacks ad best olives on the planet down your next as you watch the consistent bustle of Changi Airport and Jewel walk-on-by.
Ham Croquettes
S$16.00
Seriously good value for money, there being five of them. Creamy goodness, super-savoury Jamon, and crunch to die for. Gets my vote all night long.
Padron Peppers
S$16.00
Woof. Loved these. I have officially become a bit of a connoisseur of Spanish Padron Peppers, as I order them every single time we dine on Spanish cuisine. Charred to perfection, quality EVOO, loads of salt, and love that extra touch of the citrus from the lemon. That’s GENIUS!!!
Garlic Prawns
S$20
Wifey wolfed these down. Super-fresh prawns, delightfully spicey, cooked to perfection: were all the words she was using as she ate. I have to say the smell was seriously delicious and as usual this non-piscatorial was mightly p!ssed off with himself for not being able to eat it…
The most popular food this evening at Tapas Club VivoCity was the aged Jamon. I am not sure why it was so popular. Was it the thin carvings, or maybe the serving technique? Perhaps you know why??? Suffice it to say, the queue was long ALL NIGHT LONG for Jamon… I’ll ask Jose, and revert back to you in a blog update.

Conclusions of Tapas Club Vivocity anfd ElClasico: Eat Spain Drink Spain
I would say job done!
In that three hours of the ElClasico, Wifey and me Ate and Drank more than our fair share of Spain.
And now, the end is near, and as I face my final 14th pint of free-flow Estrella… Jeeze Louise, that was intense. The service was on point despite the free flow. These guys were pumping it out, including the main man Jose. $78 for both me and Wifey was just exceptional value. I think me and the Tapas Club VivoCity Team played better than Madrid – I scored 14 times to their 2, and had way more shots on goal: AKA my big fat hairy mouth!!!
As the final whistle blew and the El Clásico showdown at Tapas Club VivoCity came to an end, I couldn’t help but feel like I’d scored a culinary hat-trick! The atmosphere was electric, with cheers and banter rivaling the best of any football stadium. The spirit was so high that even the food seemed to be doing the wave on its plate.
Now, about the beer and wine – let’s just say that they kept the “spirits” of the game flowing as smoothly as Lionel Messi’s dribbling skills (being neutral there – as he is officially an ex-player). Whether it was the hoppy refreshment of the beer or the smooth, velvety finish of the wine, I was well-prepared for the emotional rollercoaster that is El Clásico and Madrid’s amazing win in the closing minutes of the game.
And speaking of rollercoasters, the food was like a gastronomic thrill ride! The Jamon Croquettes were like a goal in the last minute, full of passion, and the garlic prawns? Well, they’re basically the victory lap that every meal should end with.
In the end, El Clásico at Tapas Club VivoCity was a match made in foodie heaven, where the atmosphere, beer, wine, and food came together to create a culinary spectacle worthy of the biggest football rivalry. So, here’s to many more matches, much more Estrella Galicia, and a toast to the food that always scores a goal in our stomachs! 🍻⚽🥘
