Is this a best hawker centre in Singapore? This food house is my families second home since moving to Siglap some 10 years ago. Now, you might be wondering, “Why the new buzz about this hawker centre near me, this old established hawker centre in Siglap?” Well, my hungry reader, this very hawker in Siglap has gone through some substantial refurbishment and changes of hawker stalls of late. It’s like a rebirth.

It really struggled through Covid, especially with the 2-only-at-a-table seating. And, sadly, of late it has not been our favorite hawker centre near me with new owners Teck Ee pushing up rents and forcing out our favorite stalls, and friends, of the past 10 years. Also looming over us Siglappers has been the potential land acquisition of the entire block for $22.8 million, and closure of the hawker centre as mentioned in Singapore’s Mothership press article back in October 2022.

We have lost so many stalls in our hawker centre over the past 2-3 years, such as: Thow Yen Seafood (that one really hurt), Popiah and Auntie Rojak, Empress Place, Mook’s Mookata, Boojio Mookata, Deen Muslim Food, Red Oil Wanton, Taco Bout Mexican, and so on with one common theme about these hawkers: Islifearecipe.net has written constantly to support them. Throughout the 10 years we have lived here we really have had access to eat Singapore best hawker food.

Our old 2nd home of LTN, or 936 used to look like the above, and we truly thought of it as the best hawker centre in Singapore. It then got acquired, and closed for refurbishment for a short while. But, it was desolate with many stalls just sitting empty. We then went away for a month in the Philippines. When we returned to Singapore we all decided it was time to return for a Saturday dinner. New awning, new seats, new fans, new lights, new tables, new stall layout, new toilets, and many new stalls already up and running. I do believe she is back.
