Discover the Philippines

The Philippines, an archipelago of over 7,000 islands – yes, SEVEN THOUSAND – offers so many experiences for families seeking adventure and foodie delights. From the hubbub of the streets of Manila to the serene beaches of Bohol, there’s something for everyone. Travelers have praised the country’s family-friendly atmosphere, noting that Filipinos have a deep affection for children, making it an ideal destination for those traveling with little ones: I have been going now for ~eighteen years and completely concur with this.

Food enthusiasts will find the Philippines a treasure trove of flavors. The local cuisine, characterized by its bold and diverse tastes, offers a unique dining experience. One traveler shared their experience of a Manila food tour, highlighting it as a fantastic way to sample Philippine dishes and learn more about the city’s culture. From bustling markets to street-side eateries, the food landscape is both vibrant and inviting, with influences from Spain and the USA (Spam and corned beef).

Beyond the food, the Philippines boasts a variety of family-friendly activities. Destinations like Boracay and Bohol offer pristine beaches and exciting adventures. One traveler recounted their memorable experiences, including swimming with whale sharks and exploring the Chocolate Hills, emphasizing the country’s diverse attractions. With its warm hospitality, delectable food, and plethora of activities, the Philippines stands out as a top choice for families seeking both relaxation and adventure.

Fun Family Activities in Cambodia

Cambodia offers a captivating blend of rich history, vibrant culture, and delectable cuisine, making it an excellent destination for families. From the awe-inspiring temples of Angkor Wat to the bustling markets of Phnom Penh, there’s something for everyone. One traveler shared their experience of a well-guided family trip, highlighting the knowledgeable and professional guides who made the journey both fun and informative.

My boss just got back from Phnom Penh, his first time in 20 years, and could not recognise the city. It has blossomed due to the influx of Chinese money. He commented that he saw more Rolls-Royces and Lamborghinis in the city than in Singapore. I now need to go and take the family so I can see for myself and experience “new Phnom Penh” for ourselves.

Food enthusiasts will find Cambodia’s culinary scene diverse and potentially challenging but absolutely inviting. Embarking on a food tour or cooking class in Siem Reap, for instance, allows visitors to experience authentic local flavors in a more genuine setting compared to other tours. From savoring traditional dishes like Amok to exploring street food stalls, the country’s cuisine offers a delightful exploration of flavors.

Beyond the historical sites and culinary experiences, Cambodia provides a range of family-friendly activities. Travelers have praised the country’s ability to cater to families, offering everything from lazy beaches and bustling cities to fascinating historical sites and adrenaline-fueled activities. Whether it’s kayaking on the Mekong River, exploring the natural beauty of regions like Kratie, or even the circus in Siem Reap, families can create lasting memories together.

Japan seamlessly marries tradition with modernity, offering families such an enriching and unique travel experience. Nowhere have I experienced witnessing hundreds of thousands of people wearing suits crossing a road junction, to then go into slow motion as a Geisha shuffles across in full kimono: totally unique. From the bustling streets of Tokyo to the serene temples of Kyoto, the country caters to all ages. One traveler recounted their visit to Kyoto’s Nishiki Market, Kyoto Tower, Bamboo Forest, and Arashiyama Monkey Park Iwatayama, noting the rewarding hike and incredible views.

Food enthusiasts will find Japan a paradise, a literal food paradise. I cannot overemphasise just how good the food is in Japan. It is world-class and a must-try at least once in your life. Whether it’s exploring historical landmarks, engaging in cultural workshops, or enjoying the natural beauty, Japan offers a harmonious blend of experiences that cater to both young and old: get on that Bullet Train, AKA Shinkansen, and go explore to your heart’s content.

What to do in Indonesia with Families

Like its neighbours, Indonesia also has a vibrant tapestry of rich traditions with modern attractions. Jakarta is one of the busiest cities you’ll experience in Asia, but then go in slowmo on the serene beaches of Bali. Indonesia is another archipelago offering diverse adventures that cater to all ages. One family itinerary suggests a four-week journey encompassing destinations like Jimbaran Bay, Ubud, and the Gili Islands, highlighting the country’s vast offerings of activities suitable for children and adults alike.

Food exploration is integral to any Indonesian adventure. Families love the local dishes, such as nasi campur, a mixed rice dish accompanied by various side items, offering a delightful introduction to Indonesian flavors. In Ubud, establishments like the Golden Monkey Restaurant serve exceptional Chinese cuisine, providing a pleasant alternative to traditional Indonesian fare.

Beyond food, Indonesia boasts a vast choice of family-friendly activities. Beyond the culinary delights, Malaysia boasts numerous family-friendly attractions. Kuala Lumpur, for instance, is praised for its cleanliness, modern amenities, and a blend of cultural sites alongside child-friendly parks and exhibits, making it an ideal city for families to explore.

Safety is often a concern for traveling families, but Malaysia consistently ranks as a secure destination. The majority of locals are friendly and welcoming, and English is widely spoken, easing communication. While petty crime can occur in crowded areas, standard precautions typically ensure a worry-free experience.

Exploring local markets and street food stalls provides an authentic dining experience that is likely to delight both adults and children: just be careful about the spice levels for the little ones. One traveler noted the vibrant street food scene in Bangkok, mentioning the variety and flavors that appealed to their entire family.

Beyond the food, Thailand boasts numerous family-friendly attractions. Destinations like Phuket and Koh Samui offer beautiful beaches and activities such as snorkeling and island-hopping. Chiang Mai provides cultural experiences with its temples and traditional crafts, even getting in a cage with lions and tigers: yes, I am not kidding. I totally concur with this, as we did the same, and it was magical.

Explore Vietnam: Travel Blog

When you go to Vietnam, there is so much to do and choose from. Hanoi, the capital city, is a city of heritage but super-busy, Ho Chi Minh is high-rise modern and bustling, and then to the serene landscapes of the Mekong Delta, every family member will be captivated. We simply love Vietnam; the scenery is vast and varied, the people are just wonderful, and the food is exceptional. It is one of our top destinations in Southeast Asia.

Vietnam’s food is a feast for the senses, with each region offering distinct flavors that cater to all palates: the main callout for me is the freshness of all ingredients, simply stunning. Families can savor dishes like pho, banh mi, and fresh spring rolls, often enjoyed at bustling street stalls. Exploring local markets provides both a culinary delight and a cultural lesson, as noted by travelers who immersed themselves in the vibrant food scene.

Beyond the culinary delights, Vietnam boasts numerous family-friendly activities. Families can explore ancient temples, embark on boat tours in Ha Long Bay (a must-do once in your life), or cycle through the rice paddies of the countryside. The country’s infrastructure and affordability make it accessible for families. I miss Vietnam right now. We recently visited Hoi An and Danang and immediately fell in love again.
