The Highest Vantage Point in Phu Quoc
There are rooftop bars, and then there's INK 360—Phu Quoc Island's highest bar, perched on the 19th floor of the InterContinental Phu Quoc Long Beach Resort. This isn't just about elevation; it's about experiencing one of the most striking pieces of hospitality design in Southeast Asia while sipping cocktails as the sun disappears into the Gulf of Thailand.
Designed by renowned Australian designer Ashley Sutton—the creative mind behind Bangkok's Iron Fairies and The Bookshop—INK 360 takes the concept of a sky bar and transforms it into an immersive experience inspired by maritime mythology. The result? A glamorous, jaw-dropping space that looks like a giant sea creature emerging from the building's crown, complete with tentacle-like structures and an interior that evokes the mysterious ocean floor.
The Design: A Mythical Sea Creature Takes Flight
Ashley Sutton's vision for INK 360 was born from the building's shape and its commanding position above the ocean. The design is an ode to the Kraken—the legendary sea monster of maritime folklore—with hand-carved cast aluminium components forming tentacle-like structures that wrap around the bar's exterior. The technical execution alone is staggering: each piece was individually crafted and cast in aluminium to withstand both weight constraints and the corrosive effects of saltwater.
Inside, the main bar and cocktail lounge use mother of pearl and white marble to create the sensation of standing on the ocean floor. The flooring features longitudinal markings and shadow play that mimic marine charts, reinforcing the nautical theme throughout. It's theatrical without being gimmicky—elegant enough for a sophisticated evening yet whimsical enough to feel like you've stepped into a fantastical world.
The exterior deck, meanwhile, offers unobstructed 360-degree views of the island, the sparkling sea, and the lush landscape below. This is where the "360" in INK 360 earns its name: from every angle, you're surrounded by Phu Quoc's natural beauty.
The Views: Sunset Pictures Don't Do It Justice
Let's be clear: no photo can fully capture what it's like to watch the sunset from INK 360. The elevation gives you an unparalleled perspective—miles of coastline, the resort's pools and gardens below, fishing boats dotting the horizon, and the sun setting in a blaze of orange and gold over an endless ocean. It's the kind of view that makes you stop mid-conversation just to take it in.
We arrived around 5:30 PM, just as golden hour was beginning. The bar was already filling up with guests positioning themselves for the best vantage points. As the sun descended, the sky shifted through shades of amber, rose, and deep purple, reflected perfectly in the calm waters below. By the time the last light faded, the entire bar was bathed in warm twilight, with the first stars appearing overhead.
If you visit INK 360, time your arrival for at least an hour before sunset. It gives you time to settle in, order drinks, and claim a good spot before the bar reaches capacity.
The Entry Policy: Fair Value for Non-Guests
INK 360 requires non-hotel guests to purchase at least one drink to access the rooftop. Each drink comes with one complimentary bar bite, making it excellent value. We were a group of three, so we ordered three drinks and received three bar bites—plenty to share while enjoying the views.
🌅 Golden Hour | 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Perfect for families, couples, and sunset lovers. The atmosphere is serene and sophisticated, ideal for unwinding with a cocktail as the day transitions to evening.
🌙 After Dark | 8:00 PM – 11:00 PM
The mood shifts to a more vibrant, sophisticated vibe. To maintain the atmosphere, children under 12 are kindly asked to enjoy the evening earlier.
In our experience, IHG are the best hotel group on the island. We actually had significant issues trying to book with Movenpick and wouldn't bother staying there based on that experience alone. All IHG hotels, including the Crowne Plaza Phu Quoc Starbay where we stayed for NYE, just had the most excellent service levels of hospitality. The difference in professionalism is night and day.
The Cocktails: Crafted with Phu Quoc Ingredients
INK 360's mixology program is led by a team that takes cocktails seriously. The menu is divided into categories inspired by the elements—land, sea, and air—with each drink celebrating premium spirits and botanicals sourced from around the globe as well as locally from Phu Quoc Island itself.
Signature cocktails include creative, well-balanced concoctions that avoid the trap of being overly sweet or gimmicky. However, we did feel that they need better zero proof cocktail choices for those looking for a sophisticated non-alcoholic option. The mixologists here understand that good cocktails should enhance an experience, and adding a stronger zero-proof range would elevate that further.
The Food: Bar Bites Worth Ordering
While INK 360 is primarily a bar, the food menu is far from an afterthought. The complimentary bar bite that comes with each drink is generous enough to be satisfying, but the full menu offers plenty of reasons to order more.
We tried the buffalo chicken wings—sticky, spicy, and perfectly charred—and the grilled beef wrapped in betel leaf, a Vietnamese classic that balanced rich beef with the herbal freshness of the leaf. The tempura was light and crispy, served with a dipping sauce that had just the right amount of umami.
The Experience: Why INK 360 is Worth the Visit
It's not just the height, the views, or the design (though all three are exceptional). It's the fact that every element—from the mythical octopus structure to the locally sourced cocktail ingredients to the timing of golden hour service—has been considered and executed with care.
INK 360 feels exclusive without being pretentious. The staff are attentive but not intrusive. The crowd is a mix of resort guests and outside visitors, all there for the same reason: to experience one of the best sunset views in Phu Quoc.
