I love gardening leave. It is giving me time during the day to be with #1 the last couple of days. What have we been doing? Food exploring together. Yesterday I had an interview so was out West and on the way drove past Timbre+. Remember me mentioned our mate DaveLim at Empress Place leaving Siglap Hawker? Well, his son has opened at Timbre+, so I dragged Ollie over to meet me for lunch after the interview. So Timbre+ is number one of 2 amazing new hawker finds…
Timbre+ is a hawker on steroids. It is immense and a complete East meets West mass of food and styles. It has food-trucks FFS, one of my favourite things on this planet. It has containers, it has graffiti. During the evenings and weekends, it has live music, including our mates The Shagies. It has a massive bar, of which the bar top is made of wooden serving platters as we use for ChillaxBBQ. The place is insane, just insane, and we fell in love as soon as we walked in. I really hope I get this new job as I’ll be in and out of this number 1 of 2 amazing new hawker finds… quite frequently.
Timbre+ is located at 73A Ayer Rajah Crescent, JTC Launchpad. It is a jaunt to get there from the East Coast, but it is well worth the trip. Believe me guys this is a MUST TRY. It’s Die Die. Tomorrow though they may have one less food-truck, cos for sure I am stealing one tonight.
Food-carts, yes food-carts. And loads of them. I really did think I was in heaven at times today. And yes they have empty ones. Then BigFoot sends a link sharing that they do food incubator start-ups. I applied, but a major bit of misleading or lack of information sadly. You have to be under 35. Er, I know start-ups with founders of 50+… Anyways lt looks like we won’t be having ChillaxBBQ in this empty yellow one then. Bugger! Back to stealing it tonight then…#1 finds Dave’s son’s stall and gets his fix on Beef Kway Teow and Gubak Bao. Good work…Sorry I really got carried away on the food trucks. Holy shit. I had to sit down eventually due to something showing in my shorts. Man, I love this place!Be proud @Dave Lim. Your son’s place is awesome and his food is absolutely spanking. As in spanking. We will be going back for his slow-cooked, as in 48 hours, beef short rib.My darling wife, there is even a Filipino food-truck selling Lechon, sisig etc. Jesus this place just keeps getting better and better.
And then seeing my wee Facebook post our mate Ching Yin from The CheeseShop suggested that if we like Timbre+ we should try Bedok Marketplace. So yep, that’s today’s food foraging fun. And OMG this place is off-the-charts uber cool and superb. I have found a new bread supplier for ChillaxBBQ already ha ha. Again this is a Die Die must try location. It’s an ingenious new concept from BC Concepts. Just brilliant. MUST visit you East Coasters you.
So here now comes number 2 of 2 amazing new hawker finds…
#Bedokmarketplace is @ 348 Bedok Rd, Level 2 The Bedok Marketplace
When I see signs like this I really start to feel food giddiness. I mean, come on. Pictures of pigs and then how they cook their infamous Khao Kha Moo. Jesus, I am so coming back here. This place is crazy cool too. Some of Ollie’s mates from next year already trying the place out it seems.Ollie and I had lunch today from this joint. Burning Oak. Fark me, you should come here just to eat at this place. Hawker food on steroids my friends. OMG. Ching Yin, you were not wrong my lovely! Here are the boys hard at work in one of the nicest looking hawker stalls I think I have seen. Actually, Chef Pynt‘s was well up there with the Gaucho Grill though…This joint had me at hello. But then they have to put a VW Beetle in here too, and a Vespa over the way. I mean come on, yes you are bloody cool hawker, and yes you do indeed keep giving. This Bistro is more like a bar apparently, with music and even darts. Well hello there. I can see myself coming to work from here in the future. Did I mention happy hour is $6 Guinness? And here is our food from Burning Oak. Ollie up first with his Wagyu, Foie Gras, with Onsen egg, pickles and rice. $22. He ate this at the speed of light. The Wagyu is immaculately cooked – you’ll see mine shortly. Knocked it out of the park boys! Well done!!!This is some incredible gourmet hawker shit. Come on Michelin you have loads of stars left to hand out. Mine was the Wagyu with truffle Wagyu mince, and again the onsen egg, a little Wasabi and that stunning Japanese rice. $16 for mine. One of the very best hawker meals ever. These guys are truly Gourmet Gangsters. Be proud Burning Oak, superb food!!!See what I mean about the steak. No farking sous vide here ha ha. Perfectly chargrilled Wagyu steak. Shiok. To die for. Seriously so very very good. I am super impressed with this.I then we order some fresh sourdough bread from Mr Kneady. Another guy intro’d to me by Ching Yin, so I also said hello and we will now be using his product for our ChillaxBBQ cheese toasties and 3-cheese fondue – of course with cheese from The Cheese Shop. Top bloke and stunning bread. Oh yeah, and he also does sourdough pizzas. Next time buddy, next time. Another genius hawker concept at Bedok Marketplace. I am blown away.
So there you have it, folks. #1 and I go food hunting. and boy did we score. 2 amazing new hawker finds… were our kills yesterday and today. Two massive favourites that I now need to get the rest of Kennett gang to experience. Just bloody brilliant.
These become a HIGHLY rated die die must try, and for us a rinse and repeat again and again. Thanks Ching Yin. Get your bums in a taxi and get into them. I am absolutely rubber stamping that you will.
