SLAINTE PARAGON REVIEW: Best Charcoal Grilling on Orchard Road?

Slainte Paragon Review: second visitation

Slainte Paragon Review: I said to the guys I’d be back, and back with the crew, and today seven of us descended on them again to gourge ourselves on their finest. Today, a little disappointed on the mains: pulpo not as good as it was when Spence and I went, Black Angus very chewy and the Ayam Bakar was not even served on the smoker box… But the standout were the starters and we chose four new ones that were KILLER!!!

slainte review jamon and manchego cheese

Slainte Paragon Jamón Shaved Jamón Iberico de Bellota

Jamón shaved jamón iberico de bellota, crisps bread, manchego cheese @ SGD $28.80 for a “small” and SGD  $43.80 for a large. We should have got large, as we ended up buying two small – DAMN!!! This was sublime. The savoury of the jamon, with the deep-salt of the Manchego on that crunchy bread, with a delicious olive oil drizzle. Amazing, simply amazing!!!

slainte review campfire marshmallows

Slainte Paragon Wood Fired Marshmallow

And we had dessert today. How could we not, I had some of my kids with me. Wood Fired Marshmallow self-roast marshmallow, chocolate ganache, vanilla tart shells, crushed nuts, berries @ SGD $19.80. This took me back to days of camping with Boy Scouts, not as a perve, but when I actually was a Cub Scout. The chocolate was intense with a sprinkle of sea salt (I love that), roll the melty mallows in that and then roll in the chopped pistachio. Heavenly, and I don’t do desserts!!!

Slainte Paragon Review, 4th Floor Paragon Shopping Centre: (Pronounced “slawn-cha”).Yep, it’s a tad confusing Slainte neans “cheers” in Gaelic, and then there’s all the whiskey, but the menu has influences and dishes that are  Japanese, Indonesian, Spanish and so on. We asked what they want to be known for, and the resouding answer was charcoal grill BBQ. Here we go, now I am super-excited, let’s be having you!!!

Located on the forth floor of Paragon Shopping Centre in Orchard Road, Sláinte Paragon offers a distinctive take on contemporary dining with an emphasis on charcoal grill dishes. With its warm wood accents, and semi-alfresco seating, the space strikes a balance between casual comfort and modern elegance. It’s the kind of setting that suits both business lunches and weekend gatherings, drawing in diners with the unmistakable aroma of smoke and spice.

The restaurant’s menu is built around charcoal-fire cooking, with an impressive selection of meats and vegetables grilled over charcoal. Signature dishes like the Ayam Bakar, a traditional Indonesian-style grilled chicken, showcase Sláinte’s commitment to technique and bold flavour. The kitchen’s use of charcoal is deliberate and refined, and it works just so very well—meats are given just the right amount of char, and accompaniments are designed to complement rather than distract from the main attraction. WOOF!!!

This was a paid for tasting, but I promise you the review is 100% genuine. This place is serving up absolutely quality food and drinks. Simply amazing for a shopping centre. Both Spence and I were both taken aback.

Slainte Paragon Menu

slainte paragon review murotsu oysters

Murotsu Oyster @ $25.80

Freshly shucked oyster, lime caviar, lemon. Not my cup of tea of course, but Spence. Wow. I lost him for about five minutes as he devoured these. Super fresh oysters, and zingy with the lime caviar and lemon alongside the seaside freshness. Kapow!!!

slainte paragon review garlic and herb cheese toast

Garlic and Herb Cheese Toast @ $14.80

Garlic butter cream, mozzarella, cheddar, charcoal grilled brioche. Spence and me both looked at each other when this arrived… “Well I’d never order cheese on toast in a restaurant” and “Man alive that looks heavy”. Boy, were we wrong. Fluffy, light brioche with super-umami cheese and herb, and then slather that roasted garlic all over and BOOMSKI!!! Way to go Chef!!!

slainte paragon review charcoal grilled corn

Charcoal Grilled Corn @ $11.80

Fresh corn, smoked chipotle mayo, spices, cotija cheese. Like a spin on Mexican esquites. This is frickin’ amazing. Perfect char on the corn, some peppery seasoning, the cheese and then that smoked spicy mayo. Simply heaven. So so good. Bravo Chef!!!

slainte paragon review pulpo a la plancha

Pulpo a la Plancha @ $34.80

Charcoal slow grilled octopus leg, saffron mashed potato, fried onion. Again, sadly, not one for yours truly. I did try the little onion fried bits, which were killer. Spence showed me just how soft the pulpo was and raved about it smokiness from the chargrill wood BBQ. I have to bring Wifey here now. Could this be the #1 Pulpo dish in Singapore. Watch this space.

slainte paragon review black angus ribeye

Black Angus Ribeye @ $48.80

350g black angus ribeye, seasonal vegetables, chef’s special sauce. I am a nightmare when it comes to steak. I have these dillusions of grandure that I set the standard, so always start with a challenge mentality. I tell you, the boys in the kitchen here kicked me in the balls and smashed it out the park. This steak was off-the-charts good. Perfect medium-rare, pink2pink, smokey, charred and seasoned to perfection. 10/10. Just a WOW steak. Great job to the kitchen crew. Totally in awe now!!!

The Grill Heroes – Ayam Bakar and Its Fiery Friends @ $23.80

Let’s talk grill, again. Sláinte doesn’t do timid; it charbroils stuff over applewood and red-hot embers like a kitchen with an attitude problem. The hero of the hour? Their Ayam Bakar—half a spatchcock chicken that’s been marinated overnight, beside maybe a tiny bonfire in your soul. “Succulent chicken, smoky finish, bold spice balance,” and let me tell you: yes, and yes, and yes – you need this in your life at some point.

Imagine meat that parts on your fork, juices escaping in slow-mo, edges crisped just right. Doused in a spiced gravy and married to funky spiced/honey watermelon as a palate cleanser, it’s dangerously moreish. It comes on a smoker box, which contains coals on top of curry leaves, doused in butter to get your smoke on. I mean, come on… Who needs Viagra when you have this.

Ayam Bakar (25mins waiting time) overnight marinated spatchcock chicken, spiced watermelon, spiced gravy.

Slainte Paragon Atmosphere – Family, Friends, Food

Step in and the interior is cloaked in caramel and oak tones, peppered with warm lamps that flatter your face—and your Instagram game. There’s even a semi-outdoor space facing the busy mall, bringing in that slightly weird but oddly comforting vibe of people carrying Gucci bags past while you’re gnawing on some chargrilled chicken.

Extras – Sweet Endings

Yes, there are desserts. Because after all that smoke and savour, your brain decides sugar needs a cameo. The wood‑fired marshmallow is like having a campfire in your mouth—roast it yourself, dip it in dark chocolate ganache, roll in nuts, and feel like you’re a Cub Scout again. Then the red wine poached pears slide in and soften your soul. Plus, Grilled Pineapples and Coconut Sorbet. WOOF!!!

The Staff at Sláinte Paragon – Service With a Wink and a Gravy Jug

Now, let’s give credit where credit’s due—the team at Sláinte Paragon are proper good. They’re not the stiff-shirt, robotic “May I take your order, sir?” sort. No, no. These legends glide through the restaurant with the agility of ballet dancers, while casually explaining the charcoal-grilled Ayam Bakar like it’s their own life’s work.

There’s a relaxed confidence to the service that tells you these people know their grill from their garnish. They don’t upsell with that fake enthusiasm—if you ask them what’s good, they’ll give it to you straight. They’re attentive without hovering, friendly without the forced banter, and just downright nice and knowledgable of their products and the restaurant offerings.

If you’re new to the place or just overwhelmed by all the sizzling options, they’ll happily walk you through it without making you feel like you’ve failed some sort of secret menu quiz. It’s warm, it’s fuss-free, and it makes you feel like a regular even if you’re just popping in for the first time. Service like that deserves a tip… and possibly a standing ovation. Bravo to the team we had the good fortune to meet this day. That’s the glue holding this smoke-scented party together. Sláinte Team—you’re absolutely smashing it.

Slainte Paragon Short "hit list"

  • Ayam Bakar – Marinated overnight, charbroiled to a smoky miracle, £24.80.
  • Charcoal grill theme – Every dish is lightly dusted with fire.
  • Whisk(e)y bar – By evening your croissants are gone and large pours begin.
  • Ambience – Warm, buzzing, and  family.
  • Desserts – Marshmallow DIY and boozy pears to cleanse and confuse your palate.
  • Price note – $15–$67-ish. Best to skip the ribeye if you’re on a budget.

Day to Night – A Grilling Tempo Shift

If you drop by in the morning, you’ll find pillowy brioche, bagels, eggs Benedict, potato pancakes, smoky bacon, lush salad bowls and so on. But by sunset, charcoal smoke curls through the venue, and cocktails pop in your hand. Sláinte changes its socks faster than I change mine on laundry day.

Their charcoal-grilled breakfast platter is a riot of brioche, burrata, smoked salmon, scrambled eggs—the works. Then comes lunchtime: meat, smoke, fire. Later, it switches again. Come evening, barrel-aged whiskies stand by like unflappable bouncers, ready to mellow the mood.

Slainte Paragon Restaurant Review: Final Thoughts of Smoke, Spice, and Smiles

If you walk into Sláinte Paragon Restaurant expecting an average shopping centre nibble over a sparkling water, you’re going to be steamrolled by smoke, spice, and the unapologetic in-your-face thrill of charcoal-grilled food done properly. This is not a place for dainty appetites or quiet bites. It’s a full sensory workout—sizzling meats, and faint wisps of apple wood buttered smoke curling around your ankles, and the faint hum of someone ordering another round of cocktails. And honestly and truthfully? It’s absolutely glorious and such a surprise for Spence and I.

What really sticks with you—aside from the smoke in your shirt—is the honest cooking. We went to watch them slam another Angus steak in their charcoal broiler, and mightily impressive it was, it being a Kopa Charcoal Oven: WOOF!!!

Their Ayam Bakar isn’t trying to reinvent the roast chicken. It’s actually what chickens dream of being: tender, full of flavour, grilled over proper charcoal, and served with a flourish of spiced watermelon that somehow works as a palate cleanser. Each bite tastes like someone back there actually cares, probably has slightly singed eyebrows, and isn’t afraid of seasoning. The charcoal grill does the talking. No fancy foam. No micro herbs. Just fire, meat, and bundles of flavour. It’s exceptional.

The charcoal-grilled menu cooked in that Kopa Charcoal Oven is clearly the star here, but the menu is propped up by a strong supporting cast: bountiful breakfast dishes, desserts that walk the line between campfire and fine dining, and an impressive drinks list that makes you question your commitment to sobriety. Sláinte doesn’t whisper—it shouts across the table while handing you another whiskey.

Sláinte Paragon has fun running through everything, from the slightly bonkers marshmallow dessert to the staff who actually enjoy being there and engaging with you. It’s a place built for people who love food, and not just foodies who want to Instagram the crap out of everything. And, despite in being in the middle of Paragon—aka the land of air-conditioned elegance and $1,000 handbags—it manages to be refreshingly unpretentious. Yes, the prices can creep up if you go full wagyu-ribeye-and-three-cocktails mode, but the weekday sets, beer package offers and charcoal specials mean you don’t have to remortgage your condo to eat well there.

Spence and I left half-grateful, half-ready for a nap in the whisky corner. We were smiling from ear to ear, and buzzing from the unexpected quality of the tasting: food, drinks and staff. You will not leave Slainte light on your feet. You may waddle, as I totally did this evening.

Sláinte Paragon is absolutely worth a visit, please go an mention Islifearecipe sent you. It’s totally wonderful food, especialy if you like your chicken smoky, your charcoal grill menu hearty, and your cocktails boozy. Totally loved it. Was absolutely surpised by how good it was. We will be 1000% returning with families so they can also ENJOY!!!

Is Slainte Paragon Restaurant Halal?

With that amazing selection of whiskeys, wines and cocktails I’ll give you one guess. Totally not. Slainte Paragon is not Halal.

What is the Slainte Paragon Restaurant Dress Code?

Smart casual I’d say, but I am sure you can wear shorts and sandals as well. It was casual. Hey it’s in a shopping mall, not like you’l be wearing a dinner jacket and ball-gown in there.
