Tanaka Pub Siglap Review – The New Japanese Pub Opening We Think Will Have Siglap Lining Up Soon

Tanaka Pub Siglap Review: Siglap has always had a quiet confidence about it. It’s the East Coast stretch where people wander out in flip-flops, meet neighbours  and friends for dinner, and accidentally stay out three hours longer than planned (yes Wifey, I know you’re gonna read this, so…). When a new restaurant and/or pub opens here, it doesn’t need fireworks or velvet ropes. It simply needs to serve food that makes people book the opening night, and immediately say afterwards, “Let’s go back next week.”

That’s why the upcoming opening of Tanaka Pub Siglap has already caught Islifearecipe’s attention. The name suggests Japanese roots, the location puts it firmly among the lively East Coast dining strip, and the early whispers hint that this place may become one of the most talked-about Japanese restaurants in Siglap once the doors swing open (targeted to be in 2-weeks). Of course, as it’s not open yet, we’re doing a bit of fun speculation here. But based on the style of the bar and restaurant from a sneak peak inside, and the poster on the front window, we think we can imagine the experience pretty well.

Tanaka Pub Siglap Review OutDoors

A New Japanese Restaurant and Pub Arrives in Siglap

Siglap and nearby Katong have quietly become one of Singapore’s strongest food neighbourhoods. You’ll find Italian trattorias, steak houses, cafés, and old-school zi char joints along the same road. But Japanese restaurants always seem to settle in nicely here. Perhaps it’s the relaxed neighbourhood crowd who appreciate good sushi, or the East Coasters who like their dinners accompanied by sake, some good Japanses beers, Japanese Whiskey and some bloody good conversation.

Tanaka Restaurant Siglap looks set to join that lineup with a modern Japanese concept. We suspect the design will lean toward warm wood tones, soft lighting, and cool images on the walls with colourful umbrellas on the ceiling.

What is the best bar on the East Coast? Could it be here...?

Picture the scene: a row of counter seats, quiet chatter, the occasional clink of sake glasses, and the smell of grilled seafood drifting from the kitchen. It’s the kind of place where you start with a light dinner and somehow end up ordering one more round because the evening feels too good to end, whilst chatting with your buddies.

And if the team behind Tanaka plays it right, we think it could quickly join the list of best Japanese restaurants in Siglap.

The Menu We Think Tanaka Siglap Will Serve

Japanese restaurants opening in Singapore today tend to balance traditional favourites with contemporary touches. Based on similar openings around town, we suspect Tanaka Restaurant Siglap menu will likely focus on three pillars: sushi, grilled dishes, and comforting Japanese classics.

First up will probably be sushi and sashimi. Expect familiar favourites like salmon, tuna, and hamachi, alongside seasonal seafood flown in from Japan. We imagine a sushi counter experience where diners can order individual pieces or perhaps a chef’s selection platter. If Tanaka aims to attract neighbourhood regulars, this section of the menu will likely be approachable rather than overly formal.

Next comes the grilled section. Japanese restaurants love their charcoal grills, and we think Tanaka will follow suit. Dishes might include yakitori skewers, grilled mackerel, miso-marinated cod, and juicy chicken thighs cooked over hot coals. These are the dishes that pair beautifully with cold beer or a crisp highball.

And then there are the comfort plates. Think donburi bowls piled high with rice and toppings, crispy chicken karaage, and perhaps a rich ramen option for those nights when you want something warming and satisfying; despite it being 32 degress, and sweating like a pig.

If the restaurant wants to compete with the best Japanese food in East Coast Singapore, we suspect the menu will also feature a few house specialities. Maybe a signature sushi roll, a premium wagyu dish, or a seafood platter designed for sharing.

The Atmosphere At Tanaka Pub Siglap We Imagine

Restaurants in Siglap succeed when they feel relaxed and welcoming. This isn’t the sort of neighbourhood that thrives on stiff white tablecloths. It’s more about good food, friendly service, and a room full of people enjoying themselves.

So we imagine Tanaka Restaurant Siglap will aim for that balance between polished and casual. A sushi counter for those who want to watch the chefs work their magic. Tables for families catching up over dinner. Perhaps a small bar area where guests can sip sake or Japanese whisky.

Lighting will likely be soft and warm, the music unobtrusive, and the overall vibe easygoing enough for weeknight dinners yet lively enough for weekend gatherings. If we’re guessing correctly, it may become one of those neighbourhood restaurants where residents casually say, “Let’s just go to Tanaka tonight.” That is highly likely to include family Kennett.

Siglap Is Ready for Another Japanese Favourite

One of the things that makes Siglap special is its community feel. Restaurants here don’t rely solely on visitors or social media buzz. They survive because local residents return again and again. That means Tanaka has an opportunity to build a loyal following if it gets the basics right. Good ingredients. Friendly staff. Fair prices (HAPPY HOURS FOR BEER PLEASE!!!). And dishes that people talk about the next day.

We think the restaurant may also benefit from its location. The Siglap food scene has grown steadily over the years, with more people travelling east specifically to eat. From Greek, French, Spanish, Indian and modern bistros, the area already attracts diners looking for variety. Adding a fresh and new Japanese restaurant in Siglap Singapore only strengthens that reputation. Welcome to the neighbourhood guys!!!

What We’re Hoping to See at Tanaka Pub Siglap

While we’re imagining the menu, here are a few dishes we’d love Tanaka to include:

  1. A beautifully arranged sashimi platter featuring seasonal seafood
  2. Charcoal-grilled yakitori skewers with perfectly crisp skin
  3. A comforting chirashi don piled high with fresh fish
  4. Japanese wagyu beef served sizzling hot
  5. A creative sushi roll that becomes the restaurant’s signature

And of course, a drinks list with sake, Japanese beer, and maybe a few whisky highballs to keep things lively. If Tanaka delivers even half of this, it could quickly earn a place among the best restaurants in Siglap East Coast Singapore.

Voice of the Restaurant: Tanaka Pan Asian Social Pub, Siglap

“Ta Na Ka is an Pan Asian Social Pub built around the spirit of togetherness and sharing — in food, in drink, and in life.

Named after the Japanese word Tanaka- “In the middle of rice fields” — it honors rice as the heart of Asia’s food and brewing culture. Just as Asian lagers are crafted from rice, our menu celebrates the flavors meant to be shared across the table, from small plates to hearty comfort dishes.

Our emblem, the Eurasian grey wolf (Canis lupus), symbolizes community, loyalty, and the energy of gathering and drinking in the pack. At Ta Na Ka, beer flows, plates are shared, and friends connect in the true spirit of Asia’s social drinking and eating culture.”

Why Tanaka Restaurant Siglap Could Be One to Watch

The East Coast neighbourhood has a way of embracing restaurants that feel authentic and welcoming. When a place gets the formula right, it becomes part of the community almost overnight. Islifearecipe thinks Tanaka Restaurant Siglap opening could be one of those moments.

If the team combines fresh ingredients, thoughtful cooking, that relaxed Japanese dining atmosphere people love and happy hours for beers, this pub cum restaurant might soon become a regular stop for locals looking for excellent Japanese food in Siglap Singapore.

Of course, until the doors open, we’re simply imagining what the experience might be like. But our predictions are usually close, so, Siglap diners could soon have another great place to gather, eat, and raise a glass of sake. And when that happens, you can be sure Islifearecipe be there with a raging thirst and chopsticks ready, eager to see if Tanaka lives up to the hype we’re already building in our heads and to get you a review of the food, hooch and ambience of course.

We suspect Tanaka Restaurant Siglap may soon become one of the tastiest new ingredients on the East Coast dining scene.
