Smoked Salmon Soldiers Recipe

This was for Asian Mother’s Day brekkie 2020, and yes, it is #BillWallaceFriendly as made completely from what we had in the fridge, just add imagination. Smoked Salmon Soldiers Recipe was literally borne from the fridge.

I think they look stunning plated up and according to wifey AKA Mum they were bloody nice and she ate 2 whole slices of bread worth which is always a rather good sign of the success of the recipe in my humble opinion.

These are stunning little things that are almost like versions of the very British hard-boiled egg with soldiers. These are soldiers on steroids for the modern Mum, and hence the naming of Smoked Salmon Soldiers

Smoked Salmon Recipes

A rather happy Mum enjoying her special breakfast on Mother’s Day. Phew, good work kids, we nailed it. 

And now to the ingredients for the Smoked Salmon Soldiers Recipe

For one Mum’s breakfast you will need;

  • 2-3 slices of fresh smoked salmon
  • 2 slices of bread, simply cut the crusts off
  • A good knob of Ghee or salted butter
  • Thin slices of Avocado
  • Half a fresh lemon, again thinly sliced
  • Sriracha Mayo
  • 2 Cherry tomatoes thinly sliced
  • Sea salt & cracked black pepper
  • Thyme sprigs for garnish & a little flavour hit

Ready? Here we go with the Smoked Salmon Soldiers Recipe, it’s as easy as 1, 2, 3…

  1. Fry off the bread in a pan with the Ghee or salted butter until it is nicely browned
  2. Dab it with a kitchen towel to soak up any excess oil
  3. Cut the bread into equal-sized ‘soldiers – I got 4 per slice
  4. Get you hand torch out and flame the salmon to a char on one side – or you could do a quick sizzle in the pan with the butter
  5. Get your serving platter out
  6. Lay some salmon down on each soldier
  7. Give a little dollop of Sriracha mayo on the end of the salmon (see the photo)
  8. Lay a tomato slice on the other end
  9. Pop an avocado slice on top of the tomato
  10. Cut small lemon pieces away from the skin and pith and pop a little on the avocado
  11. Pop your Thyme sprig on top and squeeze a little lemon juice all over and a good sprinkle of sea salt & cracked black pepper
  12. Arrange nicely on your serving platter and wake up Mum.

How good was that, and pretty simple right? All you are doing is cutting stuff up and frying some bread basically, but check the photo out because that is a little stunner of flavour explosions, textures and rather pleasing on the eye too. Give it a crack for next Mother’s Day, or perhaps don’t wait for Mother’s Day just do it because you love her. Make it now, because you’ve probably got stuff in the fridge you could use and just follow the 1, 2, 3. Mum was super-happy with her brekkie and the Smoked Salmon Soldiers Recipe was a winner, winner, Mother’s Day not dinner…
