The humble tomatoes origins
Tomatoes are a fruit that is frequently used in cookery as vegetables. They are an excellent source of lycopene, a phytochemical that may help lower the chance of developing certain types of cancer, and vitamin C. The ancient populations of western South America, Mexico, and Central America were the first to domesticate tomatoes.
The term “tomato” is derived from the Nahuatl word “tomatl” from Mexico, which was later changed to “tomate” in Spanish and finally to “tomato” in English.
Tomatoes have a lengthy and fascinating past, and they have been used as a cooked vegetable as well as in a variety of prepared dishes and salads. Tomatoes are categorized as a fruit, but for the purposes of nourishment, they are regarded as vegetables.
