Spanish food at its best: It’s been a while. We keep bumping into our mate Chef Edward just not in the restaurant. We even bumped into him in Cebu can you believe it? We have tried to get in to eat a few times recently, ad-hoc that’s a given, and he was fully-booked or we dined there and he was working the other location.

Sadly, today that was the same as he was up at Upper Bukit Timah branch. We wish you a VERY HAPPY XMAS Chef, we all miss you fella. Despite you not being there we had a lovely Xmas dinner under the watchful eyes of the Boat Quay crew.

As always let’s hear from My Little Spanish Place first; “Our philosophy is based on the Spanish saying, “Mi Casa es Su Casa”, which means “My House is Your House”. The first Spanish restaurant to be helmed by two chefs with strong Spanish heritage – Maria Sevillano from Salamanca, Spain and Edward Esmero from the Philippines, the restaurant boasts a full-fledged menu of Spanish home-style dishes and desserts.”

Let’s have a looksie…

My Little Spanish Place Boat Quay: dinner

Another classic favourite of the family is Tabla de Jamones. 4 differently aged Jamones sliced thinly off the legs to give you that experience of ageing. Almost like having side-by-side wines. Lightest to dark is youngest to old. This stuff is INSANELY good. You can literally taste acorns in the older more mature Jamons. Stunning, nearly translucent slices of pork heaven!!!

“Fermin” Jamon serrano (Spanish ham) cured and aged for at least 18 months.

“Montaraz” Jamon Iberico Cebo Spanish ham from grain-fed Iberian black pigs, cured and aged for at least 24 months.

“Juan Pedro” Jamon Iberico Bellota Spanish ham from acorn-fed Iberian black pigs, cured and aged for at least 36 months.

“Joselito” Jamon Iberico Bellota Spanish ham from free-range acorn-fed Iberian black pigs, is considered by many to be the best ham in the World, cured and aged for at least 48 months.

Feeling a little aged myself but going strong despite 2020… Here we are at our little table overlooking the river and very close to the restaurant action. Eating, drinking and people-watching. Yep, happy happy!!! I remember the very first day this opened and we had the delight and honour to be invited as guests.

And then, of course, to accompany any Jamone platter you have to add cheese, right? Even some white truffle honey was on this. Bloody nice. I got one goat, one sheep and one cow cheese for variety – this is Tabla de Quesos. We had the below three little beauties…

Manchego is a sheep’s milk cheese from the region of La Mancha. At 12 months ageing, the cheese is firm, but not hard, & has fruity, nutty & tangy flavours.

San Simon is a smoked, semi-soft cow’s milk cheese from the Galicia region in Spain. It has a creamy, yellow colour, with a distinct smoky and buttery flavour.

Romero is a sheep’s milk cheese flavoured with rosemary. The cheese is firm, but not hard, and has creamy flavour.

Homemade garlic bread up next. With a little Jamone, this became heavenly, if it wasn’t already heavenly enough on its own. So, so good. AKA Pan de Ajo.

I even ordered green stuff today. Yep, I did it. I took a deep breath. This is a tomato & cucumber salad with greens, pinenuts, & honey sherry vinaigrette and it is a STONKER. So fresh and refreshing and textural. This is AKA Ensalada de la Huerta.

Wifey hands back the crown for the very best octopus dish in Singapore, that she has had, to My Little Spanish Place. We have had a LOT of octopus this year funnily enough at a variety of restaurants. But, tonight she gave the crown back to Chef Edward and crew for Pulpo de la Casa. A lofty position to hold. Be proud Chef Edward. Grilled octopus leg with Romesco sauce & saffron potato puree.

Pinchos Morunos de Pollo. This is a new one on the family. I am trying to remember it now as cannot see it on the menu on the web site. But I believe they are of Moorish influence and are served all over Andalucia. These are super-soft and tender despite that gorgeous char and pack rosemary and paprika punch. A bloody good new one for us to try today.

Esparragos a la Plancha. One we have had before and one we’ll always s order when here at the restaurant. Monster asparagus with a stunning cheese and crisped Jamon on top. Holy shit yes. We love this one!!!

We also had Croquetas de Jamon, AKA ham-stuffed creamy croquettes. I forgot to take a photo. My bad. I think they were served and devoured. Can I use that as my excuse? Delicious creamy and hammy bites that were so crunchy. Yummo.

We were even blessed this Xmas evening with a rainbow. How about that? Not a star, but a rainbow… I wonder if three blokes on camels who just ran to Isetan to get some presents are trying to find the end/start of it???
