Our second time at this absolute cracker of a restaurant. It happened by chance today though as we were actually scheduled to go to Golden Cowrie, another of my favourites, but found that sadly this has now closed down and is now only located in Boracay. Anyways, their loss is our gain, as we have a superb meal at Gerarda’s Place, Tagbilaran City, Bohol, Philippines. As in, SUPERB! Our server was a chap called Jade, yep not too far from Jude I hear you shout. And man this guy was good. Gerarda’s be proud of this guy, as much as you should be about your food. He is a major asset to you, and made our experience very special!

It’s a cracking restaurant. Would you think this was smack bang in the middle of the city centre of Bohol’s capital city, Tagbilaran? Nope, me neither. But it is. It has such a warm family feel to it, you really cannot help but feel welcome when you walk in. It’s top-notch!

Up first is the silky smooth, super flavoursome corn soup. It’s a monster, so this is for family sharing. Crunchy fresh vegetables and just a beautiful taste. I whacked in a few chopped chili padi to get some spice going too, oh yeah baby!

This is an air-dried, deep-fried beef rib dish. In the middle of the dish is a little dipping vial of vinegar. I tell you what is that a match made in heaven or what! OMG this is so very good. Drop the cutlery and get stuck in with your hands, it’s caveman time! So good!

Bicol Express is up now. They do call this out on the menu that this is 3 chili rating hot, and boy oh boy they do not disappoint. Whoa boy this is up there on that scale. Phewy. Nose running, and bum getting nervous re tomorrow, but still you cannot help yourself to devour more and more and more of this coconut cream, super spicy pork belly curry. It is an absolute cracker! A must-have here!

Dinakdakan is up now. I think my ultimate favourite tonight. Chosen by Jimboy following a great recommendation from one of his mates that has tried it before. Superb choice Jimboy. Wow. Is it a salad? Is it a hot dish? Are they green peppers? So many questions. First bite and BOOM!!!! It’s a hybrid. They are actually green tomatoes. Crunchy, crispy deep-fried pork belly and fresh chopped red onion. All covered in a sweet and savoury, deep flavoursome cream of coconut sauce. Wow! Death-row food this. Something I will order every single time I come back. This is a MUST folks. So, so, so good!

The only one I didn’t quite get. We did ask to tone it down so no chili, which sort of made it, and I don’t know what dish. Our BAD Gerarda’s. Next time, we promise not to fiddle. We were just thinking of the kids being able to consume that was all!

This is the Pancit Canton. I didn’t get into this as it is prawn and squid seafood noodle with a special sauce. But, boy did the rest of the gang. This dish disappeared from the bowl. Clearly a good sign. WOW. And how good does it look too folks!

Please bring out that Sisig. Oh, you did, awesome. This is a BELTER. It’s different from the norm as it has a rich gravy, but wowee this is top-notch and is just one of the very best. Die Die Must Try material this dish! Oh my!!!

The Happy Campers are about to tuck in – this place is just so homely, and so family. How can you not fall in love here?

Now that is a keeper too. Lovely family shot in the restaurant, and Christmas decorations up too. How nice is that? I can hear some music; “It’s beginning to look a lot like….”

So there it is folks. Our round two with Gerarda’s Place, Tagbilaran City, Bohol, Philippines. I absolutely guarantee this will not be our last round as well. This is such a nice place. You feel welcome. It’s homely. The aromas from the kitchen waft around you. The staff is so good. The food is incredible and the price befits such a bargain for the quality you consume here. It is a MUST do when in Tagbilaran. I do believe it is rated on TripAdvisor as #1 of 84 restaurants in Tagbilaran. Rightly so. Gets my vote, and should get yours too – ENJOY!!!
