The ladies running Shun Xing Braised Duck Rice stall were still giggling as I called them Mei Mei around 11pm! Had a little chat about the foods I like to eat plus my love of chili! Great ladies, make sure you say hello when you see them!
Shun Xing Braised Duck
Look away if you are squeamish, these Shun Xing Braised ducks with their necks cut look good enough to eat!
Shun Xing Braised Kway Chap
Personally I don’t mind a bit of kway chap, what’s kway chap I hear a number of you asking, well, Kway chap is a Teochew dish of broad rice noodles served in a hot broth. The word “kway” refers to the noodles, and “chap” means soup or gravy.
The dish is often served with braised duck, pork belly, pig innards, bean curd, and hard boiled eggs. At this time of night I skipped the innards!
Shun Xing Braised Duck Noodle
I asked what was good and was told clearly the Shun Xing Braised Duck Noodle which I immediately accepted dry with a duck broth soup plus a side of mei cai which is the dish of fermented mustard greens you can see at the back in this image!
I sent this image to Brian who responded “Er kind of looks like someone sh!t on a plate“, and to be fair he is not wrong, the plating was hardly Michelin star worthy but what it lacked in finesse it made up for in taste!
Bedok Town Square – Bedok Interchange Hawker Centre
With Chinese New Year just around the corner the Bedok Town Square has some night-market stall up but despite still being open nothing was that appealing so I am glad I made the right choice for my supper!!
