But Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) is here to mess with your foodie expectations, and frankly, it’s doing a pretty good job. If you happen to be killing time before your flight or you’ve landed with the appetite of a jet-lagged bear, there’s a lot going on food-wise—and we’re here to eat our way through it: just for you.
There’s fried chicken that might make you miss your boarding call to a cinnamon roll that deserves its own fan club; MCIA has a bit of everything. Want local dishes that remind you you’re still in the Philippines? Sorted. Fancy something sweet at 2 am (really…?)? No problem. Cebu is like a second home to me, as it is our “bounce-through” location on the way to our house and soon-to-be restaurant on Panglao Island, Bohol. We’re at this airport at least 2-3 times a year, so I’d say we have a “voice-of-authority” regarding what’s available and what’s good.

This place will sort you out if you’re a weary traveler in need of sustenance or just someone who likes to eat their way through layovers. MCIA offers a variety of dining options to keep your foodie senses entertained and buzzing. Let’s get into it…
Asian Kitchen @ Cebu Mactan Airport
Operating Hours: 6:00 a.m. – 2:00 a.m.
Tucked away in Mactan-Cebu International Airport’s Terminal 2 departure area, Asian Kitchen attempts to bring a medley of Asian flavours to travellers in transit. The menu parades a variety of dishes, from Korean bibimbap to Japanese bento boxes and lechon, aiming to cater to all palates. The restaurant’s spacious setting provides a comfortable spot to refuel before a flight. However, reports suggest that the quality of offerings can be inconsistent (also my personal experience). For instance, the lechon, a Filipino staple, is best enjoyed between 10-11 AM when it’s freshest; outside these hours, it might lose its appeal.
While the ambition to serve a wide range of Asian dishes is commendable, the execution seems to waver. Some travellers have found solace in the Filipino breakfast options, while certain selections have underwhelmed others. It’s a bit of a gastro gamble—akin to playing food roulette with your gob. If you decide to dine here, perhaps stick to the dishes that have garnered positive nods from fellow passengers. After all, airport dining is often about managing expectations and hoping for the best.
Cabin Bar

Still in Terminal 2 of Mactan-Cebu International Airport, The Cabin Bar offers travellers a refreshing escape with its open, flowing design and resort-like ambiance. The bright blue canopy and spacious countertops create an inviting atmosphere, making it an ideal spot to unwind before a flight. The bar boasts an open setup, allowing patrons to witness the bartenders’ creativity and technique firsthand as they craft a variety of beverages.
This is my go-to spot every time we fly through Cebu. Service is good, food is not too bad, you can people watch, and the gate to Singapore is usually 1 minute away. It’s cool.
If you’re in the mood for a classic cocktail or a non-alcoholic refreshment, The Cabin Bar caters to a wide range of preferences. Its central location and distinctive design make it a standout feature of the airport’s dining scene, offering a pleasant respite amidst the hustle and bustle of travel.
Ritazza

It’s got all the usual suspects—Whoppers, chicken sandwiches, fries, onion rings—and yes, the same slightly squashed paper crowns if you’re feeling cheeky pre-flight. It’s a reliable pit stop for a post-check-in feast or a desperate last-minute snack before you’re herded onto your plane like sleepy cattle.
Feedback ranges from “thank goodness this was here” to “I could’ve had Jollibee instead”—so a mixed bag. The restaurant prides itself on using fresh, locally sourced ingredients to reimagine classic Filipino dishes, presenting familiar flavours in innovative ways.
While specific customer reviews are scarce, the restaurant’s commitment to quality and creativity suggests a promising option for those looking to sample Filipino fare within the airport. Given its convenient location and focus on reinventing traditional dishes, Filipino Delights appears to be a worthwhile stop for passengers seeking a meal before departure: I’m definitely giving it a go next time.
Plaza Premium Lounge: Cebu Mactan Airport

For those seeking a more exclusive dining experience, the Plaza Premium Lounge offers a range of freshly prepared hot meals, a salad bar, and a selection of beverages, including freshly brewed coffee and alcoholic drinks. Access requires a fee or membership, but the comfortable seating and amenities like shower rooms can make it worthwhile, especially during long layovers. At $62 a person, though, that is punchy and punchy above my wallet weight. So, no thanks!!!

Cinnabon

Cinnabon is a huge global franchise with outlets in every corner of the planet, including Cebu Mactan Airport. This outlet has a very small fast-food seating area, AKA uncomfortable seats to get you in and out quickly. Just do a takeaway and go to Terminal 2 and order a beer at The Cabin. Hey presto.
Our recommendation is their infamous Cinnamon Roll, made from warm dough, famed Makara cinnamon, and distinctive cream cheese topping. These all come together to create the world-famous Cinnabon Cinnamon Roll, which is prepared fresh daily. I dare you to try and walk past this shop without stopping to buy one: they are irresistible.
The cassia tree, which grows in Indonesia’s tropical woods, creates the sweet, decadent flavor that is known only as Cinnabon Makara Cinnamon. It produces a singular sensory experience that you can taste and smell at the same time, quite incredible: especially with a San Miguel, or coffee if that’s your gig.

Offering Filipino favorites, Café Laguna is the place to get your fix of local dishes before departure. We’re talking sinigang that could slap you awake after a red-eye flight, and crispy pata with a crunch so satisfying it should be available on prescription.

Operating daily from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., this branch provides a selection of traditional dishes, though the menu is more limited compared to its city counterparts. Notable offerings include the Bangsilog and Bistek Tagalog, catering to those seeking a hearty meal pre-flight.
The kare-kare is rich enough to have its own bank account, and the bagoong that comes with it? Filthy in the best way. Portions are generous—none of that stingy “airport size” nonsense—and everything arrives looking like someone’s lola made it with love and a bit of chika. Sure, it’s pricier than your roadside carinderia, but it’s also a hundred times better than a soggy airport burger. If you’re flying out, flying in, or just plain stranded, Café Laguna is where you sit yourself down, breathe, and remember why Filipino fare is top-tier soul fuel.

If you’re transiting through Cebu Mactan Airport and your stomach’s growling louder than the plane engines, Kenny Rogers Roasters might just save your soul—one quarter chicken at a time. Now let’s talk sides—because this place doesn’t mess about. The mac and cheese is creamy enough to make you weep into your boarding pass, and the coleslaw’s got the right crunch-to-sass ratio.
