Don Lechon recently set up their 2nd location in Singapore at East Village Mall in Simpang Bedok, this place is more than just a Filipino restaurant; it’s a haven for family and friends to gather and share an unforgettable Filipino food experience.

The star of the show, of course, is the Lechon, a whole roasted pig that is the epitome of Filipino cuisine but with only two of us to eat it today, it might be a bit of an overkill (pardon the pun).

At a friend’s leaving BBQ we ordered one and no sooner had I turned my back it had all gone except the pig’s face, this is what is used when creating Sisig in the Philippines! It’s another iconic dish.

Brian had just been on CNA938 and was talking about Filipino food from our friend Chef Kurt at Kubo, my daughter and I were drooling about the Sisig and I had eaten the Sisig at Don Lechon recently so I wanted my daughter to try it. Don Lechon has legendary status amongst the Filipinos living in Singapore. He even comes highly rated from our good friends at the Philippine Embassy as you can see from this Facebook post!

What did we eat at Don Lechon?

For our meal, we opted for a trio of Lechon-based dishes: the Lechon Sisig, the Lechon Paksiw, and the Lechon Sinigang.

Don Lechon Sisig

The Lechon Sisig ($13.00) was a real highlight. The chopped lechon was cooked with onions, peppers, and a touch of chilli, creating a flavour explosion in our mouths. The dish was served sizzling hot, with a tangy and spicy kick that was perfectly balanced.

Don Lechon Paksiw

The Lechon Paksiw ($10.00) was a more subtle affair, with the lechon simmered in a tangy vinegar sauce with onions, garlic and bay leaves. The bay leaves are visible in the dish, adding an aromatic element to the overall experience. This was my first time having Lechon Paksiw and I am a fan now. It was a delicious and comforting dish, perfect for those who prefer a less spicy option (I was adding chilli padi myself).

Don Lechon Sinigang

The Lechon Sinigang ($16.00) was a real treat for the senses and reminded me of a tom yum-style soup but not spicy. The lechon was cooked in a sour and savoury broth, made with tamarind, and served with vegetables like kangkong (water spinach), sitaw (long beans), carrots and eggplant. The broth was incredibly flavourful and the lechon was tender and juicy.

After eating the Sinigang here it brought me back to a cocktail that mixologist Robbi Mann created down The Secret Mermaid called Galleon Trade that used clarified sinigang, just genius!
