Tomato, mozzarella, and basil stackers: a brilliantly simple recipe
As you may have seen in previous blogs I have made salads with mozzarella, tomato, balsamic etc. But today an idea popped into my head as I was preparing for an impromptu BBQ with the Rutherfords. In my hand, I had some tomato, mozzarella, basil, and stacking rings. I know I’ll do a salad, but let’s stack the salad using my rings. Therein were created tomato, mozzarella, and basil stackers.
A vertical tomato, mozzarella, and basil stackers salad – pretty damned impressive I think. You will ultimately need food stacking rings or something equivalent – or you could even try this with a very steady hand. Go on give it a go.
You will need the following ingredients for a family of five:
- 10 tomatoes thinly sliced,
- 1 packet of sweet basil,
- 3 packets of buffalo mozzarella thinly sliced,
- 1 bottle of good-quality Balsamic vinegar,
- Olive oil, and
- Salt and cracked black pepper.
This is so easy, so impressive, and the taste… well, suffice to say it is WOW. Over to you to decide…
In the stacker ring goes:
- Sliced tomato,
- Slice of cheese,
- A couple of ripped basil leaves,
- Sliced tomato,
- Slice of cheese,
- A couple of ripped basil leaves,
- Slice of tomato,
- A little basil leaf,
- Remove the stacker ring,
- A drizzle of olive oil,
- A drizzle of Balsamic vinegar, and
- A sprinkle of sea salt and cracked black pepper.
That is it. I have to admit I do like my tomatoes a little saltier, so, of course, I add more salt. Try it. Make your own tomato, mozzarella, and basil stackers. I served on a platter – about 4 at a time. They truly did look amazing. They all disappeared, so must have been good. I have to admit, so very good!
