Savoury Pancakes in a Hawker

What a day was today. A new discovery made. 1st time I have ever seen this in Singapore, and it was in a hawker. A WOW moment. We had just done our walking through Bukit Batok Nature Reserve and were desperate for hydration. But, where to go. We were literally in the middle of nowhere we had been before. Like, we had no idea where to go. But surrounded by a huge HDB and using our local knowhow of – therefore there will be a hawker inside somewhere we followed our instinct and found a food mecca. And it was a food mecca offering up something I have never seen before.

What? I hear you say…

Yes, you heard right.

I was stopped in my tracks.

I had to investigate.

I had to try.

And try we did.

I LOVE hawker stalls with new concepts. And this is one fantastic example. I had a good chat with the ladies running the stall and they were just lovely – sharing a few secrets which of course I have pocketed and will not onward share…

Meng Soon Huat Food Centre, 359 Bukit Batok Street is the place if you happen to be over this way and desire to visit and have a savoury and/or sweet pancake.

Some pancake mix in 1st, then some beaten egg and then the chosen ‘toppings’. The lid on to steam the top and then they use a paint scraper (love that) to get the pancake out. Folded over for delivery, or flat for eat-in. Bloody brilliant.

A tiny little stall serving up rojak and these pancakes. I sat for an hour or so and there was a constant stream of eat-in and takeaway happening. Marvellous little stall. Great work ladies.

And here they are. Eggy pancakes. I ordered sweetcorn, egg and cheese for #1 order. And egg and coconut for order #2. Wifey and I both loved the coconut one. Legendary!!!

This now becomes another idea for Wifey in the Philippines for our restaurant. We spent the next hour trying to buy little pans on-line for us to cook this. It’s just bloody genius and I LOVE it. Savoury Pancakes in a Hawker is such an easy but incredible food concept. And it is just delicious. Have you ever had or tried these? You sort of think to yourself it won’t work, but they are absolutely delicious. Take a trip. Visit the ladies – ENJOY!!!
