Is Thaiquet the Best Thai Food Near Me – Simpang Bedok?
Delicious Vegetarian Delights at Thaiquet Southern Thai Restaurant
Thaiquet Southern Thai Restaurant, located at 430 Upper Changi Rd, #01-05 East Village, can be found along the same stretch as Hong Kong Street Family Restaurant and Fisherman’s Claypot. On our recent visit, we decided to indulge in their vegetarian offerings as my wife follows a vegetarian diet on alternate months, and I often join her for a meal or two. We were thoroughly impressed by the flavours and quality of the dishes.
Pineapple Fried Rice
We started with the Pineapple Fried Rice ($8.50), which was bursting with a delightful mix of sweet and savoury flavours. The rice was perfectly cooked, and the pineapple added a refreshing note to the dish, making it a memorable start to our meal.
The service level here went above the call of duty, as mentioned this was a vegetarian night for us but normally this dish comes with pork floss (see below), so they kindly gave it to me the pork floss on the side, nice touch! To be honest I did not even know pigs floss their teeth, you learn something everyday!
Moo Tod Kratieam Tofu – Deep Fried Garlic Tofu
Next, we tried the Moo Tod Kratieam Tofu ($10.80). The tofu was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, complemented by a generous sprinkle of fried garlic bulbs. The dish had a satisfying crunch and a rich, garlicky flavour that left us wanting more. Despite being extremely full we could not stop picking at those little deep fried garlic bulbs because even with their skins on they just hit the spot!
Thai Green Curry – Keow Wan
We also enjoyed the Keow Wan (Vegetarian) ($11.80), a comforting bowl of green curry filled with fresh vegetables. The curry was creamy and well-balanced, with just the right amount of spice to warm the palate.
As this was another vegetarian dish and my wife is not overly fussed about meat being present they offered to cook Beef, Chicken or Pork and put it on the side, again this type of service is lacking outside of the high-end restaurants typically due to staff constraints and the tipping system here so this was a nice surprise!

Whilst we did not try these they looked so good on their menu that I had to show them to you but I will be back midweek for lunch by myself without the part time vegetarian!

Return to Thaiquet
When a restaurant and service are good customer return and this was our 2nd visit!
We ordered the obligatary favourites Red Tom Yum and Pad Thai, two classics you can’t go wrong with!
We ordered the mango salad but were given the fish cakes and pandan chicken for free!
Pandan Chicken (Gai Hor Bai Toey): The triangular parcels wrapped in pandan leaves are known as Pandan Chicken. This dish features marinated chicken pieces wrapped in fragrant pandan leaves and deep-fried or grilled. The pandan leaf imparts a unique aroma and flavuor to the chicken, making it tender and flavourful. It’s a classic Thai dish often served with a sweet and spicy dipping sauce.
Thai Fish Cakes (Tod Mun Pla): The round, reddish-brown patties are Thai Fish Cakes. Made from minced fish mixed with red curry paste, kaffir lime leaves, and long beans, these fish cakes are fried until crispy on the outside while remaining tender and chewy on the inside. They are typically served with a cucumber relish or sweet chili sauce, offering a perfect balance of spicy, savory, and slightly sweet flavours.
Room for Dessert?
OK Go on then, how about this warm coconut rice and cold Mango = Mango Sticky Rice!! Nom, Nom, Nom!!
Mango Sticky Rice (Khao Niew Mamuang), a classic Thai dessert. This dish consists of sweet, sticky rice topped with coconut milk and served alongside ripe, juicy slices of mango. The sticky rice is made by cooking glutinous rice in coconut milk, which gives it a rich and creamy texture.
The sweetness of the mango complements the subtle sweetness of the rice, making it a delightful combination of flavours and textures. This dessert is a popular choice in Thailand, especially during the mango season, and is often enjoyed as a refreshing treat on a warm day.
Thaiquet Ratings
With 3 Thai restaurants in this area they have some competition but the stand out for me personally was on the service level. The food was great and I will be back for more, its a solid 9/10 for Service and 8/10 for Food. I will add more content to this post as I eat more often here but do look out for more Thai Food reviews of the other two places to come in the near future but especially Khao Thai Food that Brian reviewed back in 2021 and the one right next door to Thaiquet that is Halal called GreaThai!
