Chef Benny, an ex-convict himself, has been in prison 4 times for drug-related offences and hence, he understands the difficulties for ex-convicts to re-enter the highly-competitive workforce again. He hopes that this will help them work on their recovery and gain culinary skills which will eventually lead to a better and happier life.
Eighteen Chef’s menu covers a wide array of dishes but the most prominent one would be the Cheese-Baked rice. The dish features a thick layer of cheese with nacreous pearls of rice make a perfect amalgamation of savoury flavours. Patrons can also customise their baked rice by choosing from over 8 different sauces, 30 main ingredients and 12 additional toppings.
Eighteen Chefs Bugis
Eighteen Chefs Bugis is a social enterprise initiated by Chef Benny Se Teo in Singapore since 2007. The youth-oriented restaurant employs ex-convicts and troubled youths with the aim to help them reintegrate into our society. Over the years, Chef Benny has managed to overcome several setbacks and now has established over 12 restaurants in Singapore.
Eighteen Chefs has also received numerous accolades over the years such as the RAS Epicurean Star Award in 2015 and the President’s Challenge Social Enterprise of the Year Award in 2012.
