Thia Go Restaurant Review: Da Nang’s Best Restaurants. Tucked away in the backstreets of the vibrant foodie landscape of Da Nang, Thìa Gỗ Restaurant emerges as a beacon of all things  Vietnamese food excellence. This charming eatery, whose name translates to “Wooden Spoon” in English, offers an authentic dining experience that captures the heart and soul of local cuisine with a sophisticated twist. Let me just say, that this place deserves its Michelin recognition, and certainly NOT the wooden spoon…

Thia Go Pho Nam: Pho Noodle soup: Best Pho in Da Nang

Bò tái chín Medium-Rare Beef 85,000 VND, or SGD $4.50. Stop-the-bus. Vietnamese food angels came down from on high to pluck harps and sing sweet food nothings in my ears as I took my first slurp of this. Packed with bone marrow umami, but no fatty oil as you can see from the photo. This was exceptional. Undoubtedly one of, if not the, best I have ever had.

I could have doused myself in this, so I could have licked myself for the rest of the day as I walked the streets of Da Nang. This was just BEAUTIFUL. 5/5 just for this. MUST-TRY – please send me pics of you eating this dish. DING DONG!!!

Thia Go Restaurant Da Nang: In Their Own Words

“Located on one of the quietest roads of the city center and within riding distance to the attractions, Thìa Gỗ has received many praises to the sky about one of the best restaurants in Da Nang. Our menu features famous cuisine from Ho Chi Minh city (formerly Saigon) and Mekong delta such as banh xeo, lau mam hot pot, southern pho, spring rolls (fresh and fried), etc. Our restaurant also serves Vietnamese specialties for a variety of diners ranging from meat-free, vegetarian, Muslim-friendly and low-carb.”

And this, which I just ADORE:

“NOT BEST OF THE BEST RESTAURANTS: Although we won some awards as Travelers Choice Best of the Best (2023) by TripAdvisor and Bib Gourmand (2024) by MICHELIN Guide, that was only because its food satisfied a few judge’s tastes, not necessarily yours. Please enjoy your meal without prejudice.”

Thia Go Da Nang Restaurant Review: Conclusions

In a city brimming with dining options, Thìa Gỗ distinguishes itself through its unwavering commitment to quality, authenticity, and customer satisfaction: despite Jude Jude being sick whilst here, we had one most amazing lunch. We could have gorged for hours more and made a huge dent in that Thia Go Menu, but little boy needed bed rest.

Thia Go Restaurant is not just a place to eat; it’s a locale where their dishes narrate a food story, with every meal being a true celebration of Vietnam’s rich and most wonderful foodie splendour and heritage. So, the next time you find yourself in Da Nang, make sure to visit Thìa Gỗ Restaurant, and take a Grab cos you’ll never find it otherwise. Try the Pho and the Spring Rolls, promise me you will!!!

What is the famous dish in Da Nang

Actually, several dishes stand out as local specialities, you literally are spoilt for choice in this city in this country. Here are a few to consider:

Mì Quảng
A signature dish of the Quảng Nam province, Mì Quảng features wide rice noodles bathed in a modest amount of flavourful broth, typically infused with turmeric: yep, it’s ‘yellowy’. The dish is complemented by proteins such as shrimp, pork, or chicken, and garnished with fresh herbs, peanuts, and toasted sesame rice crackers. This blend of textures and flavours makes Mì Quảng a must-try: it’s heavenly.

Bánh Xèo
Da Nang’s rendition of Bánh Xèo, a crispy Vietnamese pancake, is distinguished by its smaller size and golden crust filled with pork, shrimp, and bean sprouts. Uniquely, in Da Nang, Bánh Xèo is often served alongside nem lụi—grilled pork sticks. You wrap the pancake and pork in rice paper with fresh herbs and dip them into a tangy sauce. My TOP recommendation with the Pho. This dish is KILLER and I would have it at every single restaurant, in fact, I did, haha…

Bún Thịt Nướng
This dish consists of cold rice vermicelli topped with grilled pork, fresh herbs, and vegetables, all dressed in a savoury fish sauce-based dressing. The interplay of smoky grilled meat, refreshing herbs, and flavourful sauce makes it a popular choice among locals and tourists alike. She’s a beauty alright.

Why is Da Nang so popular

Da Nang, is a coastal city in central Vietnam, 40Km from Hoi An, that has gained popularity among travellers for a number of reasons:

Stunning Beaches
Da Nang boasts miles of pristine coastline with crystal-clear waters and powdery white sands, making it a paradise for beach lovers. Popular spots like My Khe Beach offer opportunities for relaxation, swimming, and water sports such as surfing and snorkelling. See our Pullman Beach Resort Da Nang Review here, and you’ll see,

Cultural and Historical Attractions
The city is home to significant sites like the Marble Mountains, a cluster of limestone and marble hills with caves, tunnels, and Buddhist sanctuaries. Additionally, the Dragon Bridge, a modern architectural marvel that breathes fire and water, symbolizes Da Nang’s blend of tradition and modernity.

Proximity to UNESCO World Heritage Sites
Da Nang’s central location provides easy access to historic towns such as Hoi An and the ancient capital of Hue, both recognized by UNESCO for their cultural significance.

Food, Food, Food

The city’s vibrant food scene offers a variety of local dishes, including the famous Mì Quảng and Bánh Xèo, providing such awesomeness on every plate.

Modern Infrastructure and Livability
Known as Vietnam’s most livable city, Da Nang features well-planned urban areas, clean streets, and a friendly atmosphere, contributing to its appeal among both residents and visitors: we saw a complete blend of cultures and countries, and from back-packers to resort dwellers all over Da Nang.

Is Da Nang friendly

Da Nang is widely recognized for its friendly and hospitable atmosphere. Visitors often highlight the warmth and approachability of the local residents, which significantly enhances the overall travel experience. The city’s welcoming nature is complemented by its status as one of Vietnam’s safest urban areas. While petty crimes like pickpocketing can occur, especially in tourist-heavy zones, Da Nang generally maintains a low crime rate. Travellers are advised to exercise standard precautions, such as securing personal belongings and staying vigilant in crowded areas, to ensure a safe and enjoyable visit.

As a tourist, in the busier tourist-trap areas of Da Nang and Hoi An will get pestered, and some, by local hawkers. They will try to sell you everything and anything, and it’s seasonal. When we were there the favourite was pop-up Christmas cards, I was very tempted to get a t-shirt printed in Vietnamese saying: “P!ss off I don’t want your Christmas cards…”
