Singapore, July, 2024 – Get ready to savour the vibrant flavours of Mexico at Mami’s Tamales, the first tamale-led pop-up restaurant in Asia, as it opens its doors in Singapore. In collaboration  with the  culinary icon behind the iconic Papi’s Tacos, Chef Mauricio Espinoza, and led by the talented Chef Maribel Colmenares, Mami’s Tamales brings a festive, home-cooked experience to the culinary hotspot Keong Saik Road.

Tamales hold a special place in Mexican cuisine, representing centuries of tradition and culinary artistry. These delicious parcels of masa, filled with savoury ingredients and wrapped in corn husks or banana leaves, are a rarity in Singapore. Mami’s Tamales aims to introduce this rich culinary heritage of the unassuming dish to the local food scene, offering an authentic taste of Mexico that’s been hard to find in the city.

Location and Ambience

Located at 55 Keong Saik Road, #01-02, Singapore 089158, Mami’s Tamales pop-up will enhance Singapore’s vibrant culinary landscape. The restaurant’s lively atmosphere, bold Mexican artwork, curated designs, and vivid, vibrant colours inject a true Mexican flair, making it the perfect spot to celebrate family, friends, and the joy of sharing food. It’s a place where every bite brings people together, embodying the festive spirit and community of a true Mexican fiesta.

The Culinary Art of Tamales

Crafting tamales is a labour of love that demands skill and patience, with each recipe taking up to three hours to perfect. While the Chefs strive to source locally to reduce the restaurant’s carbon footprint, key ingredients, like specific chilies and tomatillos, are sourced from Mexico to maintain authentic flavours.

Tamales at Mami’s Tamales are not only delicious but also affordable, with prices starting at just SGD $13. The menu features a variety of tamale selection, each offering a unique blend of flavours and ingredients that showcase both the diversity of Mexican cuisine and Asian influences.

Irresistible Starters:

Inspired by the traditional street food Michoacan Vasolote, Mami’s Esquites offer a delectable twist on classic street corn served in a cup. Each bite delivers the authentic, vibrant flavours of Mexico straight to your palate, promising an unforgettable start to your culinary journey.

Hailing from Puebla, the birthplace of Mami, our Chalupas Poblanas capture the rich culinary heritage of this iconic region. Experience the essence of Puebla’s traditions in every delicious bite of this beloved street snack.

Celebrating Heritage:

Indulge in Mami’s Chicken Tinga Tamales, a true taste of Mexico featuring tender, shredded chicken simmered in a rich, smoky tomato sauce with a hint of chipotle. Wrapped in soft corn masa and steamed to perfection, these tamales bring the vibrant flavours of traditional Mexican cuisine to your plate.

Diners will also discover the authentic taste of Mexico with the restaurant’s Pork Salsa Verde Tamales. These tamales are filled with succulent pork, slow-cooked in a tangy tomatillo and green chili sauce. Enveloped in delicate corn masa and steamed to perfection, they offer a delectable blend of zesty and savoury flavors.

Asian Influenced Tamales:

Inspired by the diverse flavours of Asia, the kitchen offers a special selection of tamales to celebrate the region’s unique culinary heritage. A vibrant creation is the Ayam Sambal Hijau Tamales. Featuring tender chicken infused with a fiery green chili sambal, delivering a harmonious blend of spicy and savoury notes. Wrapped in soft corn masa and steamed, this dish offers an exciting twist on traditional tamales, inspired by Asian culinary traditions.

Next is the robust flavours of the Curry Tempe Tamales. Filled with hearty tempeh marinated in a rich, aromatic curry sauce, these vegan tamales combine the comforting texture of corn masa with the bold spices of Asian cuisine.

Drizzled with a creamy marshmallow sauce, it’s a delightful treat that promises pure satisfaction.

Sip on the Spirit of Mexico

Mami’s Tamales also unveils an exquisite cocktail menu, artfully blending traditional Mexican flavours with inventive twists for a truly unique drinking experience. The bar team will be introducing La Pasita Poblana, a timeless liqueur inspired by the historic La Pasita bar in Puebla, Mexico. This sophisticated, raisin-based liqueur is traditionally served in a caballito (tequila glass) and elegantly garnished with a cube of fresh goat cheese and a raisin on a toothpick. Steeped in over a century of rich tradition, La Pasita Poblana captures the essence of Puebla. As the locals say, “If you haven’t been to La Pasita, you don’t really know Puebla.” Now, guests can savour this authentic taste of Mexican heritage right here in the Lion City.

In addition to this timeless classic, Mami’s Tamales is excited to present an exclusive mexican popsicles(paleta) bar featuring a range of unique flavours. Among the standout offerings is our Avocado, Coconut and Lime Paleta in a Coconut Margarita. This bold paleta creation combines the creaminess of mexican avocado with young coconut, a tangy zest of lime, paleta is then submerged in coconut margarita for a refreshing finish.
