A Showcase of British Food Excellence in Singapore
AHDB (Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board), the UKโs statutory levy board championing farmers, growers, and the food industry, took centre stage yesterday at The Mandala Club in Singapore for an exclusive B2B networking lunch. Greeted on arrival by organisers Richard Krystkowiak, Managing Director at Hopscotch Groupe for ASEAN and Oceania, and Virginie Subtil-who had invited French Cheese Review after our last event-the scene was set for a lunch of premium British meat, industry insight, and cross-continental connections.
A Taste of British Hospitality and Innovation
From the outset, the AHDB team impressed with their attention to detail: personalised name cards and a warm welcome. The Mandala Clubโs elegant cabaret-style setup fostered lively conversation among media and government officials. Tea and coffee were served as guests settled in for an engaging lunch.
Setting the Scene: AHDBโs Vision in Asia
Richard Gibson, AHDBโs International Trade Development Manager, officially opened the session, welcoming guests and highlighting the UKโs commitment to quality, animal welfare, and sustainable farming. He was followed by Jonathan Eckley, International Trade Development Director, who outlined the sessionโs focus on building partnerships and sharing the story behind UK beef and pork. The AHDB team warmly thanked the visiting meat producers for making Singapore a stopover en route to the HOFEX show in Hong Kong.
Meet the UK Meat Producers
The event brought together some of the UKโs finest meat producers, each with a unique story and product focus:
- Warrendale Wagyu โ Although unable to attend on the day, Warrendale deserves mention for their award-winning British Wagyu beef, recently honoured with the Kingโs Award for Enterprise: Innovation. Their partnership with 150 British farmers ensures a consistent supply of top-quality, marbled Wagyu beef, beloved by chefs and retailers alike.
- Foyle Food Group โ A leading beef processor known for its vertically integrated supply chain and commitment to sustainability. Foyleโs grass-fed and grain-fed beef lines were a highlight, with guests sampling rich, oven-roasted striploin and discussing supply chain transparency.
- Wicks Manor โ This Essex-based family farm wowed attendees with their outdoor-reared pork and processed products. The pulled pork brioche and dry-cured back bacon, sourced from Duroc and Gloucester Old Spot pigs, showcased traditional British farming at its finest.
- Norwest Foods International Ltd โ Experts in global meat trading, Norwest Foods demonstrated their capabilities in sourcing and logistics across 85 markets. Their streamlined certification for Halal, organic, and Red Tractor standards resonated with regional importers.
The Is Life a Recipe team will be following up with each producer for a deeper dive into their business and products, with a UK farm visit on the horizon.

Networking, Media, and Future Collaborations
The lunch was as much about people as products. Catching up with Joshua Simon from Kiss 92 FM led to talk of a potential interview with Chef Kenno-watch this space! Meanwhile, Calvin from Food Makes Me Happy fuelled ideas for future food mashups.
To Wrap Things Upโฆ
AHDBโs networking lunch at The Mandala Club was a masterclass in hospitality, connection, and British food excellence. With new contacts made, stories exchanged, and plenty of culinary inspiration, this event set the stage for exciting collaborations in the months ahead. Special thanks to AHDB and to Hopscotch for their ongoing support of British Food producers promotion in Asia.
