Kopitiam Comfort Over Four Floors at UncleSam Kopi Bukit Bintang

Nasi lemak, curry mee, pandan kopi and way more than you think at 10, Jalan Galloway.

Quick take: UncleSam Kopi Bukit Bintang might be known online for its Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng Berempah, but that’s just the start – the full kopitiam menu runs from charcoal toasts and curry mee to fried rice, noodles, snacks, tall Milo towers and colourful drinks, all spread across four floors including a rooftop.

Opening hours: Daily, roughly 8.30am – 11pm, from breakfast through to late supper.

📍 Address: 10, Jalan Galloway, Bukit Bintang, 50150 Kuala Lumpur.

Rating: Around 4.7 stars from hundreds of reviews, with a RM 20–40 per person spend.

From 100 Years Nasi Lemak to a Full‑Blown Kopitiam

UncleSam Kopi now occupies the same Jalan Galloway spot that many will remember as 100 Years Nasi Lemak, and you can still feel those nasi lemak roots in the menu – just with a much bigger playground wrapped around it.

Step through the green courtyard and you end up in a bright, modern kopitiam where stainless‑steel coffee pots share counter space with pandan leaves, eggs for half‑boiled sets and tubs of house drinks ready for the breakfast rush.

The main counter is pure kopitiam – big kettles, kopi stations and everything ready for fast, busy service.

We settled in downstairs first, but the building actually runs up several more levels – dining rooms stacked above each other and, if you keep climbing, a rooftop that looks back over the Bukit Bintang skyline.

The narrow wooden staircase hints that there’s more to UncleSam Kopi than just the ground floor.

There’s something very old‑KL about climbing wooden stairs in a shophouse for breakfast – you feel like you’re café‑hopping without ever leaving the same address.

Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng Berempah – Still the Star

Plate of Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng Berempah at UncleSam Kopi Bukit Bintang
That famous Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng Berempah – big on crunch, fragrance and sambal kick.

We went straight for the Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng Berempah, and it’s easy to see why this plate keeps popping up in reviews – fluffy coconut rice, properly crisp spiced chicken, a generous spoon of sambal, crunchy ikan bilis, peanuts and cucumber slices all arrive on a plate that looks like comfort incarnate.

The sambal leans richer and slightly sweet with a slow burn, the chicken brings that belacan‑and‑spice perfume, and the whole thing eats like the nasi lemak you want to remember from your KL trips.

Fun detail: for our visit we doubled down and ordered two plates of nasi lemak plus hot kopi for two – proof that “just a light breakfast” is a myth in this part of town.

What Else You Can Order: The Bigger Menu Story

If you only come here for nasi lemak, you’ll miss how wide UncleSam’s menu actually runs – the printed menu and digital ordering system list page after page of kopitiam classics and new school café temptations.

  • Nasi Lemak Series: Beyond Ayam Goreng Berempah, there are other versions and add‑ons, plus rice dishes like Nasi Kerabu Ayam Percik and curry‑sauce “banjir” styles for extra gravy lovers.
  • Uncle Sam Mee Series: Think Supreme Curry Mee, Penang‑style prawn mee, and dry noodles topped with things like dried‑shrimp chilli oil chicken chop, turning simple mee into full one‑plate meals.
  • Stir‑Fried Rice & Wok Dishes: A whole Stir‑fried Rice series covers smoky fried rice, fried noodles and rice with saucy toppings for those who love proper wok hei.
  • Charcoal Bread & Toasts: Their charcoal bread range includes kaya butter toast, peanut butter, half‑boiled egg sets and other “kopitiam breakfast” combinations that work any time of day.
  • Snacks & Sharing Plates: Tower snacks, chicken satay and sides like fried chicken pieces, fries and local bites mean groups can graze while catching up over kopi.

It’s the sort of menu where everyone at the table can find something – from full rice bowls and noodle soups to simple bread, eggs and a drink if you’re just stopping by between errands.

Kopi, Claypot Pandan Coffee and Sweet Things in Tall Glasses

A full kopi station keeps the hot drinks flowing – from Kopi O to special pandan and milk variations.

The drinks section is just as serious as the food – you’ll find the usual Kopi O, Kopi C and teh variations, plus UncleSam’s own pandan kopi and flavoured milk drinks.

On our bill were a straight Kopi O and their Signature Claypot Charcoal Pandan Coffee, ordered hot with less sugar – a fun mix of kopitiam nostalgia and modern “signature drink” energy in one claypot.

Scroll the drinks pages and you’ll also see fruit tea series, soda series, Milo towers, cincau susu, cendol‑inspired sweets and a whole line of pretty, Instagram‑ready drinks that still drink like proper kopitiam beverages rather than just sugar bombs.

Space, Vibe and When to Come

The ground floor feels busy and bright, but you can escape upstairs for a quieter room or head right up to the rooftop when the weather cooperates – that’s probably the sweet spot for supper or a slow late‑afternoon kopi.

Because it opens from breakfast and now runs into the late evening, UncleSam works for everything from a quick morning kaya toast, to a mid‑day nasi lemak fix, to fried rice and drinks after a Bukit Bintang shopping run.

  • Come early if you want that relaxed breakfast kopitiam feel.
  • Mid‑day is ideal for exploring the fuller menu – rice, noodles and snacks.
  • Evenings and late nights have more of a hang‑out vibe, especially with the rooftop option.

Service during our visit was fast and friendly, even with a steady stream of orders pinging in from the QR menu – plates came out hot, drinks followed quickly and the table was cleared with kopitiam efficiency.

Should You Go to UncleSam Kopi Bukit Bintang?

If you’re staying around Bukit Bintang and want to trade another mall café for something more local, UncleSam Kopi is an easy recommendation – a proper kopitiam with enough menu depth that you can come back three or four times and still be trying different dishes.

Start with the Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng Berempah and a hot kopi, then branch out: curry mee on the next visit, charcoal kaya toast for breakfast, maybe a Milo tower and tower snacks when you bring friends along.

For me, that mix of old‑school nasi lemak DNA, a huge kopitiam menu and the four‑floor shophouse setting is exactly why UncleSam Kopi feels like a little KL food adventure – all without leaving Jalan Galloway.
