France's Favourite Mama Lands in Singapore – Bold, Bougie & Full of Heart
Address: 110 Killiney Rd, Singapore 239549 • Soft opening: 1 November 2025 • Phone: +65 6050 3250

Mama Shelter Singapore Exterior & First Impressions
Stepping up to Mama Shelter Singapore on Killiney Road feels like walking into a carefully curated secret. The facade—all warm terracotta and blonde timber—sits at the edge of Orchard, the city's fashion precinct, and signals something different from the usual corporate glass towers.
The 115-room lifestyle hotel launched with bold ambition: designed by Ong & Ong Architects, it achieved the BCA Green Mark Platinum rating—the highest green building standard in Singapore. On arrival, guests are greeted by the main entrance, flanked by lush plantings and a neon welcome that sets the tone: casual luxury, no pretence.

The car entrance is currently under final preparations, but temporary access is available. What strikes you immediately is the energy: on November 1st, the soft opening day, Mama Shelter Singapore hosted a grand launch event at 4pm, drawing curious Singaporeans ready to experience the moment.

Mama Shelter Singapore Restaurant & Grand Opening Day Event
Walking into Mama Shelter Singapore on opening day felt like arriving at a concert halfway through the first set. The restaurant was alive—staff in full swing, and locals keen to claim their corner of this new scene. We met David Batchelor, director and partner, who welcomed us personally and offered a guided tour through the entire property. It's clear that the team is thinking beyond typical hospitality—this is placemaking.
We also had the pleasure of meeting Liza Tan, Hotel Manager of Pullman Singapore Hill Street. It was our first time meeting Liza, and it's always wonderful to connect with hospitality professionals who bring such passion and expertise to their venues. You might recall our El Chido review at her hotel. Great to have her representing the industry at this exciting launch.

Mama Shelter Singapore Bar & The Harley Bikers Celebration
The bar at Mama Shelter Singapore is where things get theatrical. It's a striking setup with moody lighting, stained-glass panels, and a vibe reminiscent of old-school Hard Rock Café Singapore energy—but updated for today. The bar sits adjacent to a dedicated live performance stage, complete with professional sound and lighting rigs.
On opening day, the scene took an unexpected turn when the iconic local Harley Davidson bikers contingent rolled through for the launch celebration. Rather than a traditional lion dance, they congregated at the bar, free beer and free burgers in hand, soaking up the energy and marking the occasion with authentic Singapore flair. It was pure, unapologetic fun.

(A gentle nudge to the bar team: consider reaching out to East West Asia for a more thoughtful tequila and mezcal list—craft spirits deserve better than one-dimensional sponsors.)

Mama Shelter Singapore Reception & Interior Design
The lobby entrance to Mama Shelter Singapore is intimate and playful: two retro arcade game machines flank the reception desk, instantly signalling that this isn't corporate hospitality. The reception counter itself is spacious and welcoming, setting the tone for check-in.
What immediately catches your eye is the ceiling above you. In bold, flowing script painted directly onto the plaster: "I LOVE SINGAPORE"—a stunning installation that honours the Singapore Airlines crew sarong kebaya (traditional uniform). This ceiling artwork runs the full length of the hotel from reception through to the restaurant end.

The murals are the work of Beniloys (Benjamin Saillard), a French artist and graphic designer who practically has a full-time job painting Mama Shelter hotels worldwide. The Singapore installation alone took him four months—each brushstroke deliberate, each colour choice considered.
Mama Shelter Singapore Restaurant Design
The restaurant itself is a masterclass in layered design. Warm timber, brass accents, art-deco inspired lighting fixtures, and a colour palette of cream, navy, and gold creates an atmosphere that feels both retro and refreshingly contemporary. Seating flows naturally—intimate booths, communal high-tops, and corner nooks—making Mama Shelter Singapore Restaurant equally comfortable for dates, business lunches, or solo diners.
Inside the restaurant, the scene was unmissable: queues forming, tables filling, and a palpable sense of occasion. The design is a playful nod to retro-modern brasserie—booth seating for intimate groups, high-tops for solo diners and quick bites, and an open kitchen that lets you watch the action unfold. The 6,000 sq ft restaurant space sprawls across the ground floor, anchoring the whole venue.

One standout addition: Mama Shelter's olive oil range, which feels both genuine and tongue-in-cheek—because what says "French hospitality" better than beautiful packaged oils?

Mama Shelter Singapore Merchandise & Corridor
A corridor to the left houses one of the brand's signature moves: the merchandise shop. About one-third of this corridor is dedicated to branded goods—clothing, accessories, and the quirkier offerings that give Mama Shelter Singapore personality beyond just hospitality.

Mama Shelter Singapore Lift & Access
On the way up to the rooms, you'll encounter what may be Singapore's most Instagram-worthy lift. Sleek, minimalist design meets a bold statement: "MAMA LOVES YOU" spelled out in warm neon lights. (Spot the author making a cameo like an Alfred Hitchcock Easter egg—yes, that's me in the reflection.)

Mama Shelter Singapore Rooftop Bar & Pool
Note: The rooftop was closed on opening day due to local Singapore permitting not being fully ready. However, David gave us a preview of what's coming—and it's spectacular.
The 8,000 sq ft rooftop bar and pool area is the crown jewel of Mama Shelter Singapore—an open-air sanctuary ringed by timber frames, dotted with loungers upholstered in terracotta and cream stripes, and anchored by an Italian marble swimming pool. The views sweep across the city; on National Day and F1 race nights, guests here will have front-row seats to Marina Bay Sands fireworks displays. The pool is adults-only (no children), which preserves the mood.

The rooftop also hosts a dedicated performance stage, making it a fully realized entertainment venue. The bar terrace is dotted with Clase Azul signage, and we're already hoping the spirits list gets a refresh for an even more curated experience.

Mama Shelter Singapore Rooms – Comfort Meets Constraint
Stepping out of the lift, the corridor stretches clean and well-lit—a good omen for what's ahead. Mama Shelter Singapore positions itself as a lifestyle hotel, which David emphasized means "restaurant with rooms"—and the room design reflects that philosophy. Bedrooms here are deliberately compact but meticulously appointed.

We stayed in Room 614, a queen bed configuration that felt cosy compared to our king at home. However, the quality of the bed sheets made up for the slightly smaller footprint—seriously luxe linen. The aesthetic is minimalist: warm neutrals, quality bedding, and a massive flatscreen TV dominating one wall. Storage is tight (as expected in compact hotel rooms), but thoughtfully designed.
In-room amenities include an in-room water dispenser with hot and cold filtered water—handy, though we wish the complimentary option included bottled water.

Bathroom & Amenities at Mama Shelter Singapore
The bathroom is where Mama Shelter Singapore truly excels. Toto fixtures throughout—including a toilet seat that detects proximity, raises automatically, and keeps itself warm. It's a luxury detail that feels out of place until you use it, then it becomes indispensable.
The shower is genuinely outstanding: powerful, rainfall-style head with excellent pressure and temperature control. We'd argue it's among the best hotel showers in Singapore—serious engineering went into this.
A note on amenities: Hand soap wasn't provided in the room, which was a surprise. Premium toiletries and a Dyson hairdryer are available, but hand soap is a basic hygiene provision worth having readily available.

Blackout Blinds & Room Views at Mama Shelter Singapore
The blackout blinds are exceptional—completely soundproof and light-blocking, making it easy to rest despite the urban buzz below. This is premium room engineering.
We were also shown a twin bed room overlooking the former residence of Lee Kuan Yew in the distance—a view that carries historical weight. The property also features exclusive bunk bed family rooms (interconnected to parent rooms via adjoining balconies), allowing children and parents to share the experience without sacrificing separate sleeping zones.

Our balcony overlooked the burgeoning Singtel site development across the way—a view of Singapore's perpetual reimagining.

Mama Shelter Singapore Breakfast Experience
Morning arrived quickly. We headed down to the restaurant to experience Mama Shelter Singapore's breakfast offering. The dining room had shifted from the high-energy launch event of the previous day to a more relaxed breakfast service, though the kitchen was clearly in full swing.
We ordered from the breakfast menu—I went for the Pork Sausage whilst my wife opted for the Smoked Salmon. Both arrived well-executed and generous. My wife paired hers with a black coffee made on the premises via a Cimbali coffee machine—solid espresso work, worth the $6 refill price.

Here's where Mama Shelter Singapore stumbles slightly: water is not complimentary. Guests are offered Acqua Panna Italian bottled water at $12—a premium positioning that feels at odds with the casual vibe of the venue. Our suggestion? Bring your own water bottle and your own coffee to refill in your room using the in-room dispenser. It's a simple workaround that makes smart use of the amenities already provided. Coffee refills at $6 are reasonable for this calibre of machine, but the water pricing feels like a missed opportunity for a gracious touch.
Mama Shelter Singapore Menu & Restaurant Offerings
Mama Shelter Singapore Restaurant arrives with an intentional menu: comfortable bistro fare with French foundations, updated for Singapore's multicultural palate. Starters range from oysters to charcuterie; mains span from burgers to pasta, steaks grilled over wood-fire, and locally-inspired seafood. Prices sit comfortably in the $12–$38 range for individual items, positioning Mama Shelter Singapore Restaurant as approachable fine dining rather than fine dining theatre.

The standout dish to try: the Mama's Smashed Cheeseburger. Tasty, well-constructed, though—fair warning—it's not the most photogenic burger on the Insta circuit.

Verdict: Mama Shelter Singapore
Mama Shelter Singapore arrives as a genuine lifestyle asset to Singapore's hospitality landscape. The brand philosophy—restaurant with rooms—is clearly intentional and well-executed.
The rooftop will be spectacular once permitting is finalized. The restaurant energy is undeniable. The design throughout feels cohesive and thoughtful. The bedrooms prioritize rest in a way few hotels manage.
Yes, it's a 5-star experience with room for improvement. Hand soap should be provided. Water pricing feels misaligned with the casual-luxury positioning. But the bones are extraordinary: the architecture, the art, the rooftop potential, the restaurant energy, and the bedroom comfort all signal serious vision.
In six months, once systems settle and opening-day processes normalize, Mama Shelter Singapore will be one of Singapore's must-visit hospitality venues—not just for the rooms, but for the restaurant, the bar, the rooftop, and the vibe. This is a destination, not just a hotel.
