Yi Dian Xin @ Parkway Parade

Yi Dian Xin @ Parkway Parade

This place is a new restaurant in Parkway Parade. Just on the 2nd. It’s sort of one of those, do we really want to eat in a shopping centre moments. But it is packed with our local local mates. Let’s have it then, we thought this day. And I tell you what I am so so glad we did, as this place is absolutely bloody awesome. It is off the charts food and at incredibly reasonable $$$. We had a superb lunch this day at Yi Dian Xin @ Parkway Parade. It’s part of The International Treasures Group, so up there with Michelin star ratings for their other places up Orchard Road and the like. If you are an East Coaster make this your next lunch stop. It is SO good!!

Her comes a sample of our wee lunch today. Dribbling with the memory of the lunch. Simply super food at Yi Dian Xin @ Parkway Parade. It really is a die die must try, and no queues like downstairs at Din Tai Fun. Works so well for me.

Yep the roast pork belly and mustard is a cracker. Sorry though Yi Dian Xin @ Parkway Parade, I still think ChillaxBBQ is best with our apple mustard puree, and balsamic reduction ha ha. No competition. Seriously though, this was bloody good. Loved it.

As stupid as it may sound, this cucumber salad was just off the charts good. The sauce with this was insane, like absolutely insane. Crunchy cold cucumber, with this slightly spicy, sour liquor. This one knocked this restaurant out of the park. If you come here you must have this – it is called Smashed Cucumber With Garlic. Oh my goodness, best salad dish EVER!!!

Up next is wifey’s Congee with two Treasures; sliced fish and Century egg. OK here she comes with her review. It was not a fancy dish, as it is just porridge with fish and egg, but it was addictive. It tasted so good. The fish was clearly very fresh, unlike the egg – both positives there then. The porridge was sticky, again in a good way. This is a drug.

BBQ meat noodle for the kids – Amy has chicken with soy sauce, and Jude plumbs for this one the Char Shiew. Both went for noodles with soup. It comes with quite a fishy broth – just to be aware. I think they both got in to this one in a big way.

This was another OMG moment. You have to try these. Give it a Michelin Star. Char Siew buns. These are called Baked Snow Crust BBQ Pork Buns. Its like a doughy bun, topped with crispy icing sugar, filled with savoury Char Siew. These are incredible buns – simply THE BEST. Truly an OMG moment. So so good.

I ordered these – but deffo within was something a little fishy, so I outsourced them to my Mary. They looked stunning though, like little Gyoza that my mother-in-law makes. Pan-fried dumplings. This version is Pan Fried Water Chive Dumpling. Mary said this was really different from other dumplings, sticky crushed rice skin, salty on the interior – she loved it.

So there you have it folks Yi Dian Xin @ Parkway Parade. This is, in my reckoning, a die die must try. If you don’t mind chowing down in a shopping centre, you simply must come try. It is quality. Some of the best Chinese/Cantonese at such reasonable pricing. It was just a superb lunch. We ALL agreed this has become a new favourite restaurant for family Kennett and we will absolutely be a coming back. It is really so very good. I kind of got a weird comment on the blog, in that all my reviews are positive about the places I dine at. That is absolutely correct. I like to blog positive experiences, not slag off the shit experiences. I’d rather be telling you where you should be going to eat. This is another of those you have to come and try places – I totally know you will absolutely – ENJOY!!!

Father of 3. All my kids are mixed, with English-Japanese, and English-Filipino - a recipe in the making there. I have been cooking since a small lad, as guided by my Nan and my Mum - gradually that morphed through exposure to Thai cooking from a lovely lady called Da in Margate. I used to hang out in her restaurant and watch the techniques. So the 1+1= greater than 2 occurred - Mum/Nan/Da - off I went in to the world of Asian cuisine. Moving to Asia in early 2000's clearly has brought that on somewhat - we travel continually, and eat locally and therefore have exposure to more and more new things. I have lived my dream and written a cook book whilst here, an amazing experience and all for a good cause too as I raised a lot of money for charity. My blog is now hopefully turning in to book number 2. Watch this space. I hope you enjoy my passion.
