These opportunities for date lunch with wifey are fast disappearing. Work starts again soon on 29th July, and I am sad. I’ll miss our lovely long days together, seeing the kids, and basically just having uninterrupted fun. So this is one of the remaining days for us. We again chose somewhere different to keep the variety barometer a swinging. So today we visit a place we have walked past many times Rakuya @Katong, lunch with wifey #workisover-rated. I like their slogan; “Don’t ask for the menu, we don’t have one!” I like that quirky shit. So let’s have a look, shall we… Here we go.

Again because we have no kids we can sit at the adult seats and watch the action. Not really your traditional Japanese style going on here with denim and urban style peaky blinder stuff but it’s cool. Love watching Chef and his technique.

They bang out these rather cool set lunches. I went for the Kurobuta pork. Blimey Charlie talk about soft, soft pork. Absolutely stellar this was. Wow!!! Also to note. The salad dressing was off-the-charts good. Like I could have bathed in it. Delicious.

Mary gets stuck into the Wagyu. I love the fact that I have cured her and she now eats medium-rare steak. I had a little guzzle on this and it was stunning food – my only bitch would be that the meat was seriously chewy but tasted so good. See the little chips top right of the bowl – fried garlic chips. WOW. They went so well with both the beef and pork. Even had a little Chawanmushi to accompany the plate.

I feel a proper date night coming on and some Japanese whiskey and Sake tasting with wifey. A nice little bar for that. She’s my brown girl near a ring, lah li lah li lah….

And that was that. One of our last wifey hubby date lunches was over. This was a new one again for us. This was Rakuya @Katong, lunch with wifey #workisover-rated. Extremely reasonable on the pocket and bloody good for the taste buds. The only bitch was the chewy Wagyu. Smack it with a hammer boys if it would tenderize her a little. Some seriously good grub. We really liked it. OK, OK one more bitch. No beer at all. None on tap and none in bottles. Holy crap. A million bottles of whiskey and Sake but not a drop of beer. Deary me!!! Anyways that aside you should surely pop your nose in here as it is quality Katong-side food – ENJOY!!!

Brian Kennett

Father of 3. All my kids are mixed, with English-Japanese, and English-Filipino - a recipe in the making there. I have been cooking since a small lad, as guided by my Nan and my Mum - gradually that morphed through exposure to Thai cooking from a lovely lady called Da in Margate. I used to hang out in her restaurant and watch the techniques. So the 1+1= greater than 2 occurred - Mum/Nan/Da - off I went in to the world of Asian cuisine. Moving to Asia in early 2000's clearly has brought that on somewhat - we travel continually, and eat locally and therefore have exposure to more and more new things. I have lived my dream and written a cook book whilst here, an amazing experience and all for a good cause too as I raised a lot of money for charity. My blog is now hopefully turning in to book number 2. Watch this space. I hope you enjoy my passion.
